So, I was at dinner last night and my wife and mother (of all people) started asking me about the Cowboys. And my wife asked me a really good question.

"Do you think Romo will ever have a healthy season again?"

My first reaction was, "yes, of course!" But then I thought about it and he hasn't had a completely healthy season in a long time. He's getting older, older players don't get healthier.

So my question to you is... "Do you think Romo will ever have a healthy season again?"

her follow up was "if you don't think he will, you have to get a new QB"

Probably not completely healthy but most quarterbacks don't, it is a physical sport. If we can get 12-14 games out of him, we should be happy, we just need a good backup behind him.

Let's put it this way
If romo starts all 16 games in the next year, it will be nothing short of a miracle

If the betting line on games started by romo for 2016 is at 15, i would take the under

This is the perfect answer. It's going to be rare that any quarterback makes it through a season completely healthy.

Newton, Brady, Eli have done it this year but luck has something to do with it. It's coming down to not if you get hurt but when - in other words can you play at the end and into the playoffs.

Brady has been able to stay relatively healthy as their coaching staff is smart enough to give him 3-5 step drops and the ball is out (thereby minimizing the risk).

Unfortunately, that's just not in Romo's nature.

All the more reason to draft a QB in the 1st 2 rounds...regardless....screw the BPA...if a QB is there, take him...period...

What are the chances that happens?

If Jerry really wanted JFF and feels like he missed out, he prob wouldnt be satisfied taking some QB in round 1 or 2 while he's still thinking about how he was talked out of taking JFF who he thinks would have made us relevant for the next 10 years.

I am surprised Jerry isn't out there saying..."see, see, I was right, if we took Johnny, we would have had a back up....see"......
Well, I expect that during a SB weekend interview after a bottle of JWB. :lmao2:

No. Romo takes too many risks/hits in this offense. Maybe if he were allowed to call his own plays....

Since Tony has become the starter, he has played in 127 games out of 154. So he has missed a total of 27 games in his career. 23 games are due to a broken collar bone, this year 13 games and 2010 10 games. So in 9 years, he has missed 4 games not due to a broken collar bone. Broken bones happen. But there is no evidence to suggest that Tony has all of sudden become an injury risk that can't be counted on. He has the same probability to stay healthy as every other QB in the league. I know him being out sucks but let's not go overboard on this. He has a 2 or 3 years left to compete at a high level. There is nothing to point to that says otherwise. While I agree it is time to start finding his successor, it is not a time to panic and over draft someone just for the sake of drafting someone.

How to keep Romo healthy?

- Get rid of the Romo-friendly offense. The offense doesn't need to go through Romo. It needs to go through the offensive line. Which brings up the second point ...
- Protect Romo with a running game. (That means drafting bell-cow backs. I wouldn't be opposed to drafting Derrick Henry in the second and Alex Collins in the fourth.)
- Continue to invest in the defense, which means using our first pick NOT on a quarterback but a defensive lineman or corner.

John Elway was 38 when he won his first Super Bowl and contributed heavily. But Terrell Davis was the key to the victory.
Romo can play until 39 like Elway did. But we MUST protect him and not have him carry the offense.

I just don't know if Garrett or Jerry have it in them to put the reins on Romo.

Please don't introduce facts into this. They get in the way of my misperceptions. :D

I think women, who otherwise dont give a rats .......about football, asks these questions to show interest in you. not football.

With Romos style of play, I dont think he lasts too much longer. Maybe , if were lucky, a few years. He will miss games during the offseason. I think what the hope should be is that, he is healthy going into the playoffs, if we can get there.....

Now, if we change the way we play Romo. Maybe we can get more years out of him. WHich is why I was so mad with how they approached this season. I wouldve brought in a stable of good , promising RBs, and then drafted one , maybe two....We wouldve had some RBs, And that wouldve been our bread and butter. Romo, would hand the ball off, roll back out of the way, "untouched" for many, many plays. I would install a passing game that required quick releases.....

And if all that failed to win games....well, Romo.....go be Romo and win it.....

But I fear, with his injury history, his mentatily, the dependence this franchise has on him, and his age.....will be catching up real soon. May have already started.

You have arguably the greatest QB of all time, setting the bench in Denver. Once that body starts down the path of deterioriating, then its very very hard to stop......

the bones break and pull, quicker, and easier, even with soft hits.......ageing does that.....go figure?

Romo started four games this year and was injured in three of them. At 36 years old next season I don't see that getting any better , ,teams know he's fragile and will do what it takes to knock him out. I'd like to see him in a player-coach role

The thing is.......it's avoidable.

If Romo would throw it away and quit thinking there's a successful play with every snap, he'd make the 16 games, IMO.

Good idea, maybe we will end up with a Jake Locker, Christian Ponder or Blaine Gabbert.

Better yet, we can pick those players over players like a JJ Watt or Tyron Smith...but it's okay because we can use another first on a QB in five years if it doesn't turn out.

Welcome to the 2011 draft for the Vikings, Titans and Jaguars. You reach for a QB just for the sake of taking one...you will be burned. In that same draft....the Bengals took AJ Green in the 1st and Andy Dalton in the 2nd, I'll choose that draft myself.
