Romo's performance

I had a thought today while going over the first three games.

We should lean a little more on our OL in the passing game. I want to see more 7-9 step drop pass plays with longer developing routes for our WRs.

I believe it will play to all the strengths of our offense while covering up some of the weaknesses.

Base formation I'd like to see is 2 WRs split outside the hash marks, 2 TE's and Jones or Barber as the single RB.

Both TE's have a called route or blitz pick-up responsibility. Jones also has a called route or blitz pick-up for something up the middle.

This way you have 8 potential blockers and little chance of anyone coming free.
If the defense rushes 3-4 guys, you have 5 potential receivers.

Our WR's are not that good. We don't have a Steve Smith or a 2007 Owens. We need to give them longer developing routes to uncover.

I trust Romo most on the deep drops and the longer developing plays. He's great at viewing the whole field and finding the best couple of options to focus on.
He's also great at moving in the pocket to buy that extra half second.
Since our OL has been so strong, I feel good about its chances to give Romo the time he needs.

And when you run game is clicking like our has, the deeper drop longer developing pass plays become more effective with the defense focusing more on the run.

I just don't like the 3-5 step drop quick hitting pass plays for us right now. Our WRs just aren't good enough to uncover on quicker routes.

I thought romo had a great game just because He didnt force any balls or make stupid mistakes. If He just plays within himself and scrambles on broken plays and passes to the check down when needed we will be fine.

29 - 13 as a starter. I think that speaks for itself. Dude is only gonna get better.

There was nobody anywhere near Choice. Thought it was a good play.
So did I. It was heads up and it worked. It would have been nearly impossible for the Panthers to defend on that play and continue pursuing Romo.

I like him running if the opportunity presents itself. I also like the way he held the ball with two hands. Someone swiped at it, but unlike last year, Romo had a secure grip on the ball.

3 games and no fumbles.

It was good to see Romo pull it down and try to pick up some yards. He did that very effectively in 07, but for some reason not so much last season. I dont wanna see him taking off too much but on occassion it is just one more thing defenses have to worry about.

I was VERY pleased with Romo on Monday night. The no INT thing was huge, of course, but I'm very happy with the fact that in 3 games he's yet to fumble the ball. He's really worked hard on protecting that thing when he's getting hit. I also loved that he didn't hesitate, as it seemed he'd been doing lately, to pull the ball down and run forward for a handful of yards when the play wasnt there to be made.

If he continues to play heads up like that we'll have a good year and his TD numbers will come, without a doubt. He was close to having 2 TD passes Monday night. Those things will happen. And as they happen, with improved protection of the ball, the harder this team will be to beat.

I thought he did a pretty good job Monday, and know that there is more greatness to come from him
