Romo's pocket presence

If you remember, in interviews with Romo before the season, one of the things he mentioned on several occasions that he was trying to improve on was cutting down on his drifting forward in pocket while looking for receivers, which he felt put undue pressure on his linemen since it gave them a shorter cushion with which to protect him with. He cited Tom Brady several times as an ideal model to follow in terms of this characteristic (eg standing tall in the pocket with little unnecessary movement).

So remembering these interviews, this was something I was trying to watch out for during the Cleveland game. So was it my imagination, or did Romo actually look different in the pocket compared to last year on more than one occassion? On quite a few throws, I thought he was practically standing like a statue while just slightly rotating his body while looking for receivers, and it did seem very Brady-esque to me. And of course, when he felt pressure, he was still scrambling around as usual. And if I'm not seeing things, I'm wondering how much of this can actual contribute to making fantastic protection look even better.

Agree or disagree?

agree he looked great except for 2 throws to Owens. my buddy a giants fan even said to me he looked very Brady-esque

he wasn't drifting up in the pocket for the most part. like u said, he looked statue-esque many times which made the O-line look more tremendous than they already are. I think Romo put in ALOT of work this last off-season that will pay HUGE dividends. The best is yet to come.

Its crazy because he looks like Brady in the pocket and when things break down he can go Brett Favre on you.

Man we're lucky.

I said the same thing yesterday !

He looked so sharp, so smooth, so poised in the pocket, ... he carved them up all day !

And he is an undrafted FA, .. are you kidding me?

Yes, we are very lucky!!

Gotta be very frustrating for a defense playing against a quarterback who is so naturally elusive while also trying to penetrate a dominant offense line.

I don't think anybody can deny the improvements Tony has made. He already had the quick release, good accuracy and scrambling ability. The only thing he really needed to improve was his presence and he looked far better yesterday.

His movement was reduced when the pressure wasn't there and that allowed him to make more accurate passes and look around a little longer. It did look like Brady at times and that's the best compliment you can give any QB.

To be honest I never thought he would be the superstar he is turning out to be. On the other hand, after seeing him play a couple of games in college, I just couldn't believe he went undrafted. Sean Payton was a genius for advocating Parcells and JJ grab him after the draft.

Agree....during the game I noticed that there wasn't very much "HAPPY FEET" going on...no bouncing, no looking antsy...just standing tall

He did look very good yesterday in the pocket and seemed to be a little more patient and more confident. I liked what I saw.
