Romo's Speech/Goodbye Video

What are you going to say when we trade him away to Houston/Denver any day now? "Well, I guess in that video he did mean goodbye... durrrr"
It's not about what I say, it's about what Romo says. When the trade happens the words coming out of his mouth will be "goodbye"... durrrr

He didn't publicly say goodbye.

Also, I don't see how that changes anything even if he did. If a team wants to trade for him, they will. Everyone already knows he'll be released, this was publicly stated before his "farewell" video.

Teams aren't wondering if "Will Tony be released or not?" they are thinking "Do we want him to hit the open market and have to bid on him with the risk of getting beat out?"
My point is we had a card to play (bringing him back) that got killed by all the theatrics. If you don't think that would have helped negotiations for a trade, then I don't know what to tell you. More options = more bargaining power.

Yeah when he's released I guess this means he won't say anything to the Cowboys since he already said goodbye.

No, genius. It meant what he said, Einstein. Thank you, Cowboys Nation for all the support.

All the support for what? Who has been supporting him lately? He hasn't played in 2 seasons. He is talking about the support over the years during his career here because he is about to be gone. Are you that dense?

That's interesting considering he mentioned all the support that's come in recently with his status up in the air and how he's noticed it.

But you know better. Than even him.

This is probably because of how smart you are.

Right, he isn't going to be traded or released any day now. I guess you really have it all figured out don't you?

CZ: Who cares if she ignored my last 28 calls and 52 texts, we're still a couple until I hear her say the words "I'm breaking up with you".

This is rich. Here's a guy insisting Romo said goodbye twice and can't point to anything in those two statements that, ya know, says goodbye.

But we're the unreasonable ones.

I know, it is unbelievably sad. "Well, he technically didn't say the word "goodbye" so maybe he was just randomly thanking all the fans for the outpouring of support when he hasn't played in 2 years"

You are seriously the best troll I know.. because there is no way on earth you can be that dumb. "He technically didn't say the word goodbye" durrrrrr

Ah, I see you're moving the goal posts now. I should have expected that kind of cleverness from a Mensa member.

Whether he's released or traded in the next 10 minutes it doesn't change the fact that video said nothing about goodbye and everything about thank you for the support during this time.

You read into it.

That simple statement would have informed the rest of the league that Prescott was the permanent starter and Dallas would have high priced (capologists will disagree), veteran, strongly-motived-to-play-elsewhere-as-a-starter backup. I have posted my previous displeasure for Romo being the singular voice of The Statement made last November but I doubt abbreviating the content of the speech would have made any difference in league wide perception of Dallas' quarterback situation in the upcoming offseason (which is now).
I don't think NFL GM's are as dumb as we think they are. They didn't need a speech from Romo to know what time it was.
I did say it was a "slim opportunity" in the OP. But I do think we needed another element in this negotiation to make the Broncos come off some picks. I've always believed Elway was too shrewd to do it as things stand right now. The media that day was expecting a statement concerning that season - what they got was way more than that. You have to admit the perception of Tony Romo's future in Dallas changed on that day. Considering we're going to have to pay $3M for a backup and we only save $5M if we cut him, I think there was an opportunity there to convince folks that it was worth the extra $2M to keep him.

"He technically never said goodbye" durrrr

I disagree. The perception began to change during the team's winning stretch with Prescott leading the offense and that perception began to solidify when it appeared Romo was deemed healthy enough to return to the starting role.

No, we didn't have that card. Jesus, how dumb do you think owners are, man? They aren't in their positions for being low IQ bums. They know the game. They know we won't be keeping Romo on his contract, we can free up some money after June 1st.

This changed nothing. If a team wants Romo bad, they will send an offer. Not a big deal, stop making a mountain out of a molehill.
