A lot of you know that I've been a big Romo advocate from the beginning. I just thought he had the right tools upstairs, the right attitude... the nervous system of a quarterback, if you will.

While I do attribute some of my previous enthusiasm for Romo to my observing his pocket presence and mobility... I really never knew how elusive; and flat out fast he was.

Knowing when to run, when to throw and when to take a sack seem all to be things that Romo has a good grasp on.

I've never doubted that he could get his head around an offensive system and execute in it.

The surprise is, I'm impressed with his speed more and more every time I watch him play.

I'll stick my head out there and say that this HUGE line is playing a big part in Romo's elusiveness, but I think another part of it is that he's just plain elusive and he's a lot faster than a lot of people, including myself, ever thought he was.

I don't think romo is fast barber was jogging and outrunning him on the botched snap play.
I think he ran like a 5.2-5.3 at the combine thats not fast.

the bada and the bing!

i agree bro!

I'd be curious to see his 40 time from when he first entered the league and compare it with now. I think the guy has just been doing a lot of speed training....

I'd also be curious to know if this is something that has been coached or if Romo just has "it".

When I first saw him play, he did this back and forth thing with his feet. His presence has developed, obviously, because he doesn't do that anymore. I just wonder to what degree his speed has developed.

The guy sure seems like a prime athlete--for a golfer, if you know what I mean.

I'd say he's at least in the high-mid 4s right now....

No, he's at least 4.7 or 4.8 speed. Aikman ran a 4.7 for crying out loud.

Oh--he's faster, and quicker than Aikman was in his prime...

He was making sure his blockers stayed in front of him and Barber BTW, was pretty good at coming off of one block, nearly falling down, and jumping back in front of Romo to finish off the blocking so Romo could get the 1st.

Position: QB
Class: Sr
School: E. Illinois
Conference: Ohio Valley
Ht., Wt.: 6'2, 230
40 Time: 5.02
Grade: 3.45

BIO: Three-year starter who also played with the first team as a red shirt freshman. Owns a bevy of league and school marks. Awarded All-America and All-Conference honors in 2002 as well as being named the Walter Payton Award winner, given to the Most Valuable Player in I-AA football. Finished his senior campaign completing 65.3 percent for 2,950 yards, with 31 TDs and 13 INTs in 10 games. OVC Offensive Player of the Year in both 2000 and '01 when his numbers were 59 percent-2,583-27-12 and 66.7 percent-2,068-21-6, respectively.

POSITIVES: Smart, efficient QB with the skills to play at the next level. Patient in the pocket, buys time for receivers and scans the field, taking what the defense gives him. Quickly releases the pass and accurate on both the short or intermediate throws. Adequate long arm and leads receivers down the field. Sells the play action pass, senses pressure and steps up to avoid the rush. Displays good wherewithal and field leadership skills.

NEGATIVES: Lacks stature in the pocket, does too much shuffling and sliding of his feet and rarely sets with a solid base delivering the ball. Changes his point of release and slings the ball from the side or throws off his back foot. Adequate arm but not a rifle on his shoulders. Pass placement is not exceptional, as his completion percentage would lead one to believe.

ANALYSIS: Dominated a lower level of competition but still needs time to iron out his game and refine the smaller details, as was proven by an inconsistent combine workout. Good upside potential but the type of signal caller that would benefit from a season in NFL Europe.

PROJECTION: Mid Sixth Round

It's funny cause when you look at his negatives, it's not something you can't live with - those were things that could be worked out, and for teams not to recognize this is incredible.

I'd say he's a tad bit faster now. I want to know the details about what he's been doing to get faster. It'd be nice to see a sports reporter actually ask some interesting questions about his obvious leaps in speed; and how he achieved this ultimate state of elusiveness.

This is what I was talking about.

Obviously, this aspect of his game has been coached to the point that this "negative" part of his game has been eradicated.

Also note that his contract hasn't been worked out; and he's playing this well under this much pressure.

A Ford Expedition SUV, $45.000, at least that is what was reported last Nov. when they announced he had a publicist. He said on "The Huddle" that he wasn't into cars, just something to get you where you wanted to go.
