Twitter: Ron Leary projected price range

I'm disappointed Ron wasn't tagged. He's worth at least that much and gives us another year to resolve other financial issues before making a permanent decision on him. Maintaining the O-line was never going to be cheap so it just baffles me why money is going to be the issue that prevents Ron from remaining a Cowboy. The quality of the front five will be depleted if the FO continues this nickel and dime pettiness.
yeah they should try to keep him, he is better than collins.

Yes, we are losing a quality lineman over nickels and dimes. Why do you think the degradation of our O-line is funny?
We signed our left guard to the highest LT contract in the league. Made our center the highest paid in the league. About to make Martin the highest paid in the league. Free is making more than most around here would like and were about to insert a consensus 1st round into the LG slot. We've also invested a 3rd in a swing tackle.

Calling that nickel and dimeing means you don't know how to count.

I'm not talking about any of those cats. I'm talking about Leary. Spending another nickel or dime to keep him is not unreasonable.

A nickel and dime is not a deal that averages 9mm per year.

Are you reading the sentences you're writing?

He can be retained for $7.5 M/yr. The projection you are quoting is bloated.
What are the lottery numbers?

And also not paying a contract that averages almost 8mm per yeat is not nickel and dimeing. It's called being prudent with a younger, better pedigreed, cost controlled higher upside guy. Paying Leary while you have Collins at 1/8th the cost is foolishness.

Leary has earned his money.

Overpriced to the max. Love to keep him but can't see them paying that much unless Collins is that much of a disappointment. I don't think so. He still should have a giant chip on his shoulder.

I hope 2017 is Collins' breakout year.

I think we will rue the day we let Leary go. Especially if we end up seeing him twice a year.

I'd give him 6 million a year. Sure as hell better than giving Terrance Williams 6 million a year. If free retires atleast attempt to push out Collins to RT and get insurance in the 4th round

I agree 100% he should start at LG and La'ell Collins should start at Right Tackle

Cooper could be an option as a backup. Besides that we found Leary as an undrafted free agent, I'm sure there are some quality options in the draft.

I think Cooper could be an option as a starter if they wanted to look at moving La'el Collins to right tackle, or at least giving him the chance to win that job.

Asset allocation is why you don't keep Leary. As has been stated in this thread Tyron and Fredbeard already have huge deals on the OLine. You're about to have to pay a player who's significantly better then Leary at the other guard slot. We really need to keep the other guard cost controlled for at least a couple of years. Paying a man something like 5/40 isn't going to keep that cost controlled.

2 year costs
Collins 2.5-3.5 million - minimum salary this year and a 1st round tag next year
Leary - best guess - around 1 million base this year, around 3 million base next year and proration of somewhere around 10 million - so probably around 14 million cap dollars

Is Ron Leary 10-11 million dollars better over the next two years then La'el Collins? I think that's doubtful. And its problematic for us if we're going to keep going close to the cap, like we always do. Every dollar you spend on Leary can't be spent somewhere else.

Basically let someone else pay a good LG, playing between elite LT and C, like he's a near elite LG. That gives us 10 million over the next two years to use somewhere else.

So Leary leaves, and Free might retire?

There will be injuries on the offensive line this year. Then what?
