I think Jones will end up on the practice squad at this point. The rest of the backs have had some nice runs while I really havent heard anything about Jones. With his preseason possibly over I dont see how he makes it on the team.

Not saying I like that he's hurt but letting the coaches see other guys actually practice is better than watching RJ be terrible while coaches talk themselves into thinking he can have another good year like 3years ago.

Dudes not gonna make it in Dallas…

Ditto here.

- Between trying to recover from this injury in time for preseason (and even rushing back ASAP will be very risky)
and his awaited 2 game suspension, Jones is facing quite an cloudy uphill battle.to make this team.
Jones was the one RB that could not avoid to miss any camp preseason time.

I thought the Cowboys would be want to pair Pollard with an experience vet RB, rather than go with rookies and barely played 2nd year RB.
Maybe much will depend upon what's seen in these live action preseason games

@Bobhaze another reason why preseason games may matter over practice sessions.

No. You wouldn't bring in a vet w/o reps in preseason on the PS at a position like RB. You are going to give that to an RB who has value on ST as well. You can't be the third RB without those contributions. This is literally why top RBs suddenly drop off the map. Most 2 or 3s have to contribute on ST.

Amusingly, this is exactly why a washed up Herschel Walker was able to extend his career. But, darn, all that child support must of been motivating.

Lets roll with the youngsters and see what happens. Zeke is always on speed dial.

Out?

Turn the first letter of that word into an incomplete circle and you have his eventual status going into the regular season.

I want to make this clear. I wont be mad if we roll with 4 RBs. But they have to be the right kind.

Been saying since we signed Jones that he was nothing more than camp fodder, boy was I ever overestimating him.
Seems like he's our James Washington pickup this year. Cut an expensive player and try to patch the hole with a cheap one. Hope this decision turns out better than the previous one, but it looks the same.

We cut Cooper, brought in FA Washington and drafted Tolbert. We cut Elliott, brought in FA Jones and drafted Vaughn. Then we had to rely on a player already on the roster (Brown) and an UDFA (Houston) to try to fill in when those options failed. before finally making a late move to bring in an old vet. With the backs, those fill-ins are Dowdle and Davis.

The main difference is that you need multiple starting receivers, while you only need one starting back and another who can pick up enough of the slack. We know we have our starting back, so we're at least ahead of where we were at receiver, where we needed both a No. 2 with Gallup's recovery slow and a No. 3. If we don't find an effective No. 2 to Pollard, though, we'll break him again.
