Dude played really good for an UDFA playing in the first preseason game.

He’s athletic, fluid for his size, plays under control, and is physical. We don’t know yet but he could really be a find, based on the reports out of camp and how he looked in his first game.

‘He could actually push a drafted corner off the 53 if he keeps it up.

S and CB is a completely different skill set, and Bland is a pure CB.

Plus in a pass happy, CB is a far more valuable position than S. Teams around the NFL don't draft them higher, or pay them more for no reason. If you have a good CB, or a player that could become a good CB, moving him to S is very wasteful. We wasted 2 amd a half years of Byron Jones career trying to make him a S, only to have him make the Pro Bowl as soon as we switched him to his natural position

Now name a great defense that didn't have a top notch safety on it. A good safety is more important than a good corner. A corner only plays on his assigned side and is responsible for covering less than 30% of the field. A good safety lines up all over the place and is responsible for covering 55% of the field. The last time I checked 55% is greater than 30%. But hey, opinions vary right?

In fairness, we probably play three safeties as much as three CB's and he wouldn't be competing with a 2nd and 3rd rounder at the 4th safety spot. But yes, there's no doubt safety is less valuable then CB.

I think he would be behind Mukuamu, whose skill set translates better to S that Bland and has a year at the position. With our CB's, Brown and Lewis's contracts are up after 2023 and 2024 respectively, so there will be playing time to get during his rookie. Ive always thought of Bland as hedging their bet on the Wright/Josephs picks, and judging by early camp they will have to work to stay ahead of him

i think the kid played good. can’t wait to see him do it against 1/2 string players. one more thing he’s raw needs to develop the mental side of the game i saw 2 plays where he went the wrong way. one was qb over throw and other lucky the qb did not see the guy in the 10yard out where he sunk in to the seam with the already covered te.

One good to great corner is hard to find. That's why the price is so high. Great defenses have that one good to great corner and two good to great safeties. Because every corner is going to get beat no matter how good you think he is. And that's why a good safety does more and is responsible for more than a corner.

You can have two decent corners and two great safeties and still have a top notch defense. But like I've said opinions vary.

Kearse is a very good SS. Why would you want to replace him with a rookie?
