Rookie First Impressions: Ben Gardner

I'm not sure what it is... some indefinable characteristic, maybe the way he speaks or carries himself. Maybe it's his solid (not fat) football frame but there is something about this guy that I like. He is one of the few players that when I look at him, I say to myself, "I wonder how much he'll play?" not if he'll play. I know he is a late rounder but I don't have the "wonder" about him.... he will stick. Does anyone else get this impression? Is there anyone else you get this feeling about?

I get that feeling too. He just needs to up his conditioning game a little bit.

You can tell from yesterday he's not in football shape, but thats bescause his primary concern has been to rehab that pectoral muscle for the past 8 months. Even then you can tell he is worlds better then the guys they have him going up against. I'd actually like to see him get some work in against Martin. to get a true look at where he's at. I wouldnt be suprised if at some point this yr he;s starting at SDE

That's my feeling as well, especially since Marinelli said Crawford's primary position will probably be the "under". which i think is coachspeak for the 3-tech.

He is quickly becoming a fan favorite. I hope the hype is not going to outgrow his ability.

Do you see him as a SDE or 3-tech? I see him more as a 3-tech. I think the backup 3-techs are Gardner, Okoye and Bass, and I see one of them not making the team.

A poor man's Jared Allen (or the Jared Allen of a few seasons ago) would be better than last season's Jason Hatcher. I hope he reaches or exceeds that potential level.

I like that Dallas already had him lining up outside and in the slot. I watched the 20 min video of yesterday's practice and he looked very smooth. I expect him to win the 3rd WR spot. It'll be interesting to see if Washington or Boyd earn a roster spot.

I'm surprised by the arm length. He does not look like a player that lacks length like Costa. He does have some height which offsets the arm length to some extent.
