Rooting During the SB

Something kind of odd occurred yesterday as I watched the SB. Going into the game, I didn't really care who won since I don't like or truly hate either team. I thought I'd prefer to see the Seahawks win because they're from the NFC and Wilson seems pretty classy. I don't like Belicheat and Brady is like a big baby when things don't go his way so I thought it would be better if they lost. Also, I didn't want the Pats getting their 4th (only 1 away from us).

Funny thing is, as the game started I found myself almost immediately rooting against the Seahawks. It was clear what my heart felt once the game began. All the reasons I mentioned above became meaningless once the ball was kicked off. Lol. When I looked at the Seahwaks, I saw a team that seemed to luck their way to the SB. Deep (or maybe not so deep) down, I felt like they took OUR spot in the SB. They had the same record as us and we beat them head to head yet they were the #1 seed. We had to play on wildcard weekend because a 3rd team had the same record. They were very fortunate that there was a 3rd team that negated our head-to-head tiebreaker over them. They got to rest a week then play the unimpressive Panthers. The team that they did not match up well with, and had already beaten them, pissed away opportunities (thanks again Murray and Hanna) and got royally screwed by the refs. It WAS a catch. Ugh..Then it took a series of bizarre events (including an onsides kick and a DB who went down instead of continuing to run after an INT) to beat the Packers. Their QB threw 4 picks and they won! Unreal. Against GB we're up by 8, cause a fumble on a kickoff and can't recover a fumble that goes right to our guy. Anyway, Seattle basically represented yet another NFC team that was no better than us that ended up in the SB (like the vagiants in '07 and others). It's just so sickening and frustrating. I didn't want to see Sherman and the others act like a bunch of jerks after winning the SB. As nice as Wilson seems, I was getting a little tired of his hype. The guy has a great defense and running game. He is asked to do very little and almost single-handedly lost the NFC championship. I'd had enough of that.

So, I ended up rooting against the Seahawks. Watching them throw their little tantrum at the end more than offset any disappointment I may have felt watching Belicheat win his 4th. Screw the Seahawks and everyone else. 2015 will be our year.

I can understand your take on the game, and it makes a lot of sense. But for me personally, I had no real rooting interest in the game and still don't.

I can't say Seattle took "our" spot, since they played the wrong team in the NFC Championship. Sadly, we'll never know if the Cowboys could have beat them again.

You lost me when you started saying how we deserved to be there. I'm over saying we should have won. This wasn't our year. We didn't have the killer instinct this year. We played too many games where we left the other team hanging around. It ended up biting us in the end since close games often come down to the referees. So I don't feel sorry about myself or my team.

But I do agree with you that Seattle didn't look like a team that should have been in the Super Bowl. They did have a ridiculously easy path to the Super Bowl. I'm not gonna cry about them getting the #1 seed though since the tie breaker rule is clear and it makes a lot of sense if you actually think about it. I also don't think Seattle is a very good team. Their final 10 games of the season were against a bunch of awful QBs. They got beat by Green Bay and GB gave it to them. They also would have probably got beat by Dallas and Detroit. And, most importantly, the more I watch Russell Wilson the more I realize how awful of a QB he is. Imagine how good Seattle would be with a half way decent QB.

This. I was bored to death most of the game.

Felt the exact same way, except in favor of Seattle. Rather they win than the NE Cheats.

I live in Vancouver where the phony bandwagoners adopted the seahawks as their team, now that they're dominating. So I hate the seahawks almost as much as I hate the nfc East teams. I've never once in my life supported the pats in a game, but I was fully going for them in this game. Cheered loudly when the pick happened too

I had a similar experience. Never thought I'd root for the Pats, but I did.

Sick of hearing Russell Wilson is great. He's not. He's a good third year player, who happens to play on a stacked team.

It will be more challenging to manage their roster too as Wilson will take a larger portion of their salary cap. Their sustained success will depend on how well they continue to draft.

After watching the GB/Seattle game I didn't believe either team was better than Dallas.

True, can't understand why anybody would suggest otherwise. We got jobbed, plain and simple.

amen brother, amen

in 2012, when my son and I drove to Seattle to see the Cowboys play, we were asked, why are all Canadians for the Cowboys. Now two years later, we allegedly all love the Seahawks.

You guys are silly

Don't like Seattle? Fine.

But don't be ignorant

Was this directed toward me? There was no need to call anyone ignorant. I shared something that happened while watching the game. I thought I was going to root one way and I found myself rooting for the other team. Obviously my feelings were directly related to being a frustrated fan of a team that exited the playoffs in a very bizarre fashion. Watching a team that you beat earlier in the season play in the SB when your opportunity to play them for that right was, at least partially, partially taken away by a BS call sucks. That's all. No ignorance involved here, just the feelings of a fan. No need for unnecessary name-calling.

I was rooting for Seattle for the sole reason that now New England has four Lombardi's. One away from tying the Cowboys.
I would have much rather seen Seattle with two.
