Roster prediction update/active roster & 53

I have no predictions about the roster yet. I want to see some folks in the pre-season games, but I believe we have serious competition at the backup spots at WR. Stanback and Richardson are (or will be) in the mix.

The average cap hit per player, based on a maxed budget, is a little over $2 million. Glenn is only making $1.7 million this year. The average starter in the NFL should make about $4 million. Nickel CB isn't a starter obviously, but that shows you how cheap he is.

1.7 versus 800K, hmmm cheaper.

Replace Jones with Brown and we just saved 1.5 million.

Cost doesn't exist in a decision-making vacuum. My point was that cost is so low, such that other factors will come into play, with cost playing a very minor role in any decision.

While Valley Ranch may have hopes of Stanback contributing this year, I feel he's all but a lock to make it this year because I feel he was drafted with what he will "hopefully" develop into later this year and/or next year. From what I've read about CB Joey Thomas, and of course it's still quite early, but it seems as though he's having a pretty good camp so far. I imagine we'll get to know more about him as TC and the preseason games progress, but so far, he seems to making a "good" showing for himself up to this point.

Hannah does have some upside, but he's incredibly raw. No team would sign him to their 53.

Stanback will not be put on IR. He'll practice soon. I'm not sure what the rules are, but I doubt it's possible to put an uninjured player on IR.

Hannah is PS material -- with the expanded PS there is nothing to worry about here.

You apparently can put uninjured guys on IR -- the Lions just put 2nd round pick Drew Stanton on IR with an injury that should be healed in about 4 weeks. I know the ideal is to let young QBs sit - but they should still get a chance to practice.

Stanback needs to practice.

Running around catching tennis balls isn't gonna cut it.

Austin and Hurd are clearly better than Stanback.

clearly better? clearly healthier, but you can't say better cause no one has even seen Stanback.

No way Obomese makes this team. Every year we hear about some long shot that is "lighting it up" in training camp, and everyone is ready to put them on the team.

i dont see us keeping that much money in the secondary and linebacker corps.. more receivers probably

Our CB situation is not a position of strength. We might have to address stud CB with one of our two #1'S next year...

DL: Spears, Ferguson, Canty, Hatcher, Ratliff (5) Stanley, Bowen

LB: Ware, James, Ayodele, Carpenter, Spencer, Burnett, Glymph, Phillips, (8) Obomese

I'd kinda like Greg Ellis in here...

If Ellis isn't on the final roster then we've got a HUGE hole to fill.

Anyone here who thinks that Ombese and Glymph can provide replace Ellis is smoking too much crack. Please go back and see what happened to our D when Ellis went down last year.
