Rosters should be expanded

At first I thought that said "Roosters".... Would have completely changed the direction of this thread.

75 total is way too many. For quite a few reasons. Some that have already been mentioned as for the cap and such.
Also this means many more players will get injured during practices. So more injury settlements. As well, how do balance all the practices. As to each persons duties and the scout teams. It actually dilutes the talent, as how much time does each get to really practice to improve.

Also need to take the increase in steps.
Expand the active roster by 1 or 2. as well as the roster to 55 or 56. And the practice squad to 12, and designate 2 to 4 PS protected players as right of first refusal if an offer is made on them.
Or have a fluidity of players of switching between the active roster and the PS. Like when they announce their injury report, they also announce 2 players that can be on the roster, as if they were going to be active on game day or not.

the players would not be in favor of this because it's a larger pool of players splitting the same money. you would think that would mean that the players would be able to negotiate a larger slice, but with all of these being bottom of the roster guys, it likely means the top players would make less than they do now.

from my perspective, I'd be happy if they just allowed all 53 players to be active on game days.

They need to expand practice even if it is for walkthroughs and individual drills. Giving the coaches more players to teach is not going to fix the problem. All the poor tackling, wrong routes, missed blocks and busted assignments makes for a poor product. I don't watch other games any more until the playoffs the league has gotten so bad.

The Mike Browns of the world dont want to pay 53 players, never mind more.

-Instead of a Practice Squad it should be a 10 man Special Teams Squad
-That way the 53 man roster could include some projects

-Game day rosters would still be 45 man but they would add the ST squad of 10(they can't enter regular play)
-STS guys would get paid double Practice Squad guys, 200k a year(not against the cap)
-Add 2- 4 week IR spots like baseball's 15 day DL

I could not agree more. Rosters need to expand to simply reduce injuries and make the game better.

The Roster Size should be 60. and on game day, all should be allowed to dress.......but if the rules committee disagrees, maybe make it 53 active, leaving 7 inactive. Make the Practice Squad max out at 10 players.

Offense (28)
QBs - 3
RBs - 4
FB - 1
WR - 6
TE - 4
OL - 10

Defense (29)
DE - 6
DT - 5
LB - 7
CB - 6
S - 5

Specialists (3)
K - 1
P - 1
LS - 1

Yes. Perfect.

It wouldn't cost the owners any extra money because it is all under the salary cap. It would spread the total amount paid to all players out to more players; therefore, reducing the amount available to each player by a small amount.

You don't understand how it works. The salary cap is based on a percentage of estimated revenue. If you added 10 players to each roster, the players union is going to demand that the percentage of revenue allocated to the salary cap go up by the same percentage. The players are not going to accept splitting the same share of revenue among an addition 320 players. Never ever going to happen. It would take a huge chunk of profits right out of each owners pocket.

When the NFLPA agree to an 18 game season, which is coming then there will be a roster expansion, but I don't think you'll see 75 players on a roster.......more like 58 man roster 12 practice squad

Yes ........ but the poorest owners will not allow it.
It may be the players that won't allow it. With the salary cap more players means less money to pay each guy. The stars will still get their money so that means most guys in the middle and end of the roster will get less.

In the NFL injuries are so common that the team that starts the season is rarely the same team that finishes it. Would you rather the replacement players be projects that the team has been developing for a while or street free agents signed deep into the season out of panic which seems to happen all too frequently to us?

But this will make owners poor. Try to think of someone other than yourself.
