Julius Jones: Adapting Well to New Offense - 5/15/2007 10:18:10 AM

Update:
Jones seems far more receptive to Wade Phillips' new offense than he did to the one Bill Parcells used last season, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Recommendation:
"I think maybe [last season] I was being told where to run and [was] not able to use my instincts, which is really what got me here at this point in my life – using my instincts and running how I know how to run the ball," Jones said. "Maybe I listened to coach [Bill] Parcells a little too much and was kind of running like a robot." He'll be an unrestricted free agent after this season, and with the Cowboys holding two first-round picks and rumored to be eyeing Darren McFadden in the 2008 draft Jones has every incentive to come up big this season.

I believe JJ is going to to be the comeback player of the year in Big D. BTW, Did anyone catch the exchange between JJ and Tuna on one of these sports shows earlier this week??? A friend of mine told me about it. Apparently JJ and Tuna had a heated exchange during some coverage of the Cowboys mini-camp where Jones got his chance to air out his frustration directly to his former coach. I have been searching high & low for video of that with no success.

The guy had 1,000 yards rushing while watching his carries diminish the 2nd half of the year... I'm glad Parcells is gone, I believe Julius Jones will get the bulk of the carries in 2007.

I'm going by info from a reputable source that follows football and is also a Cowboys fan. For now though, without a video, it's simply hearsay.

JJ is gonna be a weapon this year.

You will see more catches out of the backfield... hard not to since Parcells didn't believe in that sort of thing.

Yup. Bill bashing is taboo around here though. Some of us get a lil sensitive. ;) Don't count me in on the sensitivity. :D

Would not consider myself overly sensitive about the bashing of BP in some respects. I just feel we have to give credit where it is due. Granted he did not take us to the promise land like it was billed (no pun intended) to be, but if we look at the team he inherited and the talent that was on that team, we must say that he did put the Boys in a much better position than we have been in a many yrs. You look at the talent on both sides of the ball, the excellent Cap situation, the lack of off the field troubles, and the mental tpoughness, you must say that he was some what successful in his tenure here. Now, that is not saying every move he made was correct or good decisions, but overall I have no complaints.

Video is probably just an urban moth.

So rotoworld takes the same quote we saw over a week ago about Jones criticism's of BP's coaching, throw in the fact that Jones is now learning a new offense under a new coaching regime and print a blurb that says he's "adapting well to the new offense?"

Am I the only one who finds that correlation weird? They don't even discuss what about Wade/Garrett's offense is better suited for JJ. They just say he's "adapting well." Big whoop.

Yep. If given the chance, man, he will be a beast. And MBIII will hammer the defenses as well.

Again, if given the chance, I am positive JJ will leave some defensive teams with their tongues hanging out after chasing him.

I think the Bill bashing is overdone, but not entirely without merit... in particular, when Julius says that Parcells had him running "like a robot", I find it easy to believe... I remember the guy who broke a few defenders' ankles that rookie season, and that was NOT the guy I've seen since then...

Since I don't believe that running backs suddenly lose their instincts, the only conclusion I can come to is that some outside force was causing Julius to ignore his instincts... and since I remember Parcells telling us all what was wrong with Julius even while he was playing extremely well, it does not stretch my imagination to believe that the running back let the head coach get in his head...

I'll bet when this season's over, we'll find that some of the players who underperformed under Parcells will play better this year, but I'll also bet that some of the players who responded well to his brand of discipline will see their games regress some this year...

You don't want to mess with those urban moths, they have a lot more 'tude than our country moths do...

There is nothing worse than a gansta moth...
