I like trading out to 40-45, picking up Coleman or Ajayi and an extra 4th then getting a SDE in the 2nd, pass rush specialist like a Mauldlin in the 3rd and a LB in the 4th

If they can find a partner, this would be an ideal scenario. The only RB I can imagine them taking at 27 is Gurley. So unless Gurley or someone else unexpected drops to 27, trade back to the early 40s. Get your RB and use the extra pick to add to the defense.

I like that idea a lot, but the run on rb's will begin somewhere and I hate the idea of loosing Coleman.

I don't see the value in taking a RB at 27, unless of course he is by far the BPA. This team probably isn't going to pay a RB a lot of money on a second contract, so if he's good, then we will have only had him for 5 years tops.

when discussing the draft the one thing nobody mentions is the quarterback. Has everyone forgotten that our qb is old and has a bad back?

It is almost a certainty they take a qb in round 3 or 4 to start developing for two years from now when Romo is gone.

My hope is they increase Dunbar and Randles role and add Mcfadden to the mix and use a three back rotation to replace Murray. Then in roumds one and two get the best corner snd best front 7 player available.

I like Owamagbe Odighizuwa.

I would really like to know what the Cowboys front office thinks of him. Not sure if I should get excited about him being a Cowboy or not. Supposedly he looked good on his pro day.

That is the primary reason I'm not sure how sold I am at going RB so early in the draft.

Despite the hole in our hearts and offense that Murray has left, I think we go best DT available - or maybe even deal up to get one of the top 4 DE's?

Then grab a back in the 3rd

Agree ?

The Cowboys have many many options at DT already on the roster. It's probably the deepest position on the defense in terms of players with upside.

All of the other positions on defense are really limited in terms of non-starters with upside.

DE: Gardner
LB: Hitchens projects to being a starter which leaves not much behind him and Lee.
CB: Patmon would be #3 is the season started tomorrow.
Safety: Nothing really. Jeff Heath is the top backup.

DT:
Starters: Crawford, McClain/Brent.
Rotational guys with upside: Bishop, Whaley, Coleman, Okoye, Jack Crawford.

there seems to be a lot of value in the 2nd and 3rd round this year, even the 4th...........if we cant find a homerun hitter at 27, I want to trade back into the 2nd, and add a 3rd, and another later pick or two.

there is absolutely no QB worth taking with t first rounder...the top two guys will be long gone, the next tier should be touched by Dallas in round 1...besides, too many other needs, even if there was a QB worthy of that pick

Who would be the best available LB? I could see best available RB being worth the 27th pick (Gurley or Gordon)... but at 43 LB, who would be worth the 27th pick?

Shaq Thompson? I don't think he is first round material.

Paul Dawkins? Lol, not after Rich Eisen ran a faster 40 than he did.

Eric Kendricks? Maybe. He is probably my favorite WLB prospect in this draft, but I'm not sure I'd want him at 27 though.

Who else? Kwan Alexander? I like him but not at 27.

Denzel Perryman for MLB? I probably like him the most among all LB prospects but 27 seems high and besides, Dallas likes their LB and DB prospects to have some length to them and Perryman is short. Sturm says he thinks Perryman would have to come off of the field on 3rd downs but I'm not so sure that he can't be a 3 down backer. A very impressive player, to me.

If Dallas moves back to the very end of the first or the beginning of the second round, I would probably be OK with Thompson, Kendricks, or Perryman with our first pick.

However, I would still much rather have Gurley or Gordon at 27, or even a DL like Michael Bennett or Alvin Dupree if they are there. Good DL in this scheme are much more difficult to find in the draft and free agency. Good 43 LB's can usually be had in the second or third rounds... and sometimes even later.

If Kendricks makes it to 27 he should be the pick. He's an absolute beast.

No.

1 Dline
2 CB, RB
3 RB, CB David Johnson is a Murray clone and a steel here.
4 LB LBers are plug and play in this defense. They just have to have some speed.
5 depth
6 depth
7 KR

I don't think Gurley will be there. I don't think they will have a strong opinion of Gordon. I think they go OO in1st.
Lattimore and McGahee were both there at 27. There's a good chance Gurley will still be around, and I'd be pretty tempted to take him...though I kinda hate the idea of using a first round pick on a RB.

No, if they were going to target a position it shouldn't be DT. DE, RB or CB then LB and DT after that.

Who do u put in the middle next to Crawford? Brent? I'm just not sure about that one anymore..

They have many options.
Brent - Solid run defender. Not pushed around by double teams.
Bishop - Stronger and quicker than Hayden. Just needs experience.
T. McClain - 1/3 combo player. Should be much better if healthy this year.
Whaley - Impressive big college DT with pass rush skills.
Coleman - Talented. Has to stay serious about football.
Okoye - Young veteran option if healthy.
Jack Crawford - Looked good in limited snaps at DT as a pass rusher.

Brent and McClain are the most promising but mostly jags on that list. Sure would like another big DT early somewhere...

I don't see a big talent difference in several of the projected 2nd round DTs and several guys on this list.

Players get drafted early because they have both talent AND are expected to contribute immediately. Most of the guys on the list fell in the draft because they were not ready, not because they lacked talent.

Anybody in the first that might be a difference maker?
