Despite the hole in our hearts and offense that Murray has left, I think we go best DT available - or maybe even deal up to get one of the top 4 DE's?

Then grab a back in the 3rd

Agree ?

I think you draft the best player on the board at 27, almost regardless of position. Limiting your draft by position is how you wind up with lesser talents for your draft picks. There won't be a pass rushing 3 tech with the right value at 27, which means we should probably avoid DT. The DE's available are going to be projects with physical abilities or will be guys who have stats but more limited projection.

Best guess, by looking at most big boards, is that the value is likely to be either RB or CB.

The way its going now, me thinks they will go RB if Gordon/Gurley are there......if not, then the best DL on board at that time. Pass rush was their big weakness this past season and I was hoping (still am) it gets addressed in FA. Don't count out Hardy until he gets signed.

If Gordon or Gurley are there at 27, I think you gotta take em. If not, take the best DL or LB available. Then take a back in the 2nd or 3rd, preferably the 2nd. I know this RB class is deep but keep in mind... the 27th pick in the 3rd round is almost a 4th round pick. We shouldn't try to get cute and hope someone like Ajayi or Coleman falls to the end of the 3rd.

I do NOT trade up for anyone.
I take the BPA regardless of position.

I am not going to reach for needs .

I don't follow CFB much at all anymore - what about the RB from Indiana ? Will he be there in the 2nd ?
I think Shango was talking about him.

Best LB or RB IMO

Who would be the best available LB? I could see best available RB being worth the 27th pick (Gurley or Gordon)... but at 43 LB, who would be worth the 27th pick?

Shaq Thompson? I don't think he is first round material.

Paul Dawkins? Lol, not after Rich Eisen ran a faster 40 than he did.

Eric Kendricks? Maybe. He is probably my favorite WLB prospect in this draft, but I'm not sure I'd want him at 27 though.

Who else? Kwan Alexander? I like him but not at 27.

Denzel Perryman for MLB? I probably like him the most among all LB prospects but 27 seems high and besides, Dallas likes their LB and DB prospects to have some length to them and Perryman is short. Sturm says he thinks Perryman would have to come off of the field on 3rd downs but I'm not so sure that he can't be a 3 down backer. A very impressive player, to me.

If Dallas moves back to the very end of the first or the beginning of the second round, I would probably be OK with Thompson, Kendricks, or Perryman with our first pick.

However, I would still much rather have Gurley or Gordon at 27, or even a DL like Michael Bennett or Alvin Dupree if they are there. Good DL in this scheme are much more difficult to find in the draft and free agency. Good 43 LB's can usually be had in the second or third rounds... and sometimes even later.

if the two top RB's are there at 27 that probably would qualify as BPA wouldn't you agree?

No matter what, don't think we can afford to take a running back at 27. Either 3rd or 4th round, and we could still get a really good runner to add to what we now have. I wanted a DT early, but with what we have coming back this season, off injuries /stashed on IR, maybe the thinking is we will have enough DT with Okoye, and Whaley, but could pick one up later ? I think it will come down to DE and corner. Who, at 27 stands a better chance of making an impact straight away ?
Have to say, I'm feeling a little underwhelmed as of now. I'm hoping its not 2009 all over again, and I doubt McClay would let that happen. The Jerry backup draft. (Shudder)...
I think letting Murray go was the right choice - have no issue with that. Even bringing in McFadden, I can understand the logic.
We do not have enough draft picks to fill all our holes, we need to compliment the draft by a few free agents - so we are not drafting the 7th best DE out of need etc... we have all read/thought/heard this logic. But we seem to have let that market dry up. Did not want to break the bank, but did want to see someone bought in to rush the passer, or be the 3rd,4th corner (I know corners are expensive in F.A.) Don't know if the market just got bled dry before they were willing to jump in or what, but there does not seem to be any rushmen left who will play much of a roll as a starter while a draft pick gets up to speed. Surely our front office can see and realize the need for this ?
I do trust our front office to use their picks wisely in the draft, that's a great thing to be able to say. And I know there is plenty of time left to pick up some cheap pieces to add before the draft hits. But they just might have screwed the pooch a little on this. We need to come out of this draft with a DE or 2, a corner, 1 or 2 Lb'ers (With or without McClain), A RT prospect, maybe another DT, doubt we will do anything about our safeties - but we need to. Hopefully next years draft is better for safeties.
I have to say, I'm a little nervous. I think we will be fine at RB, this is more about my concern on the defensive side. I would even re-sign Spencer now to help out on the right side with Gardener. On a one year deal if possible, lord knows he as plenty of Jerry's money already !
Right now I feel we will need to go DE first round, Corner second round, Maybe running back in the third, RT or LB and so on and so on... And please no trade ups, we cannot afford to give away picks when we need so many positions filled, I'm sick of that !

I don't think Gurley will be there. I don't think they will have a strong opinion of Gordon. I think they go OO in1st.

I like trading out to 40-45, picking up Coleman or Ajayi and an extra 4th then getting a SDE in the 2nd, pass rush specialist like a Mauldlin in the 3rd and a LB in the 4th

Sounding like Gurley will be long gone by 27. I don't take Gordon there. Either hope someone falls or trade back a bit.
