The NFL has denied Cowboys safety Roy Williams' appeal of his one-game suspension without pay for Sunday's illegal "horse-collar" tackle on Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. Williams will not be eligible to play Saturday at Carolina.
The following is a statement from the league:
"Commissioner Goodell has denied the appeal of the one-game suspension of Roy Williams. The ‘horse collar’ tackling technique is prohibited because the Competition Committee and the clubs have determined that it presents an unacceptable risk to player safety. Rules that protect and advance player safety must be enforced in a way that will deter violations and prevent injuries from occurring."

I hate to see Roy suspended but those are rules and the league has warned players upfront about this.

Good, I want him available for the Commanders game and the playoffs.

oh, this part of roy sure - but the fire rages on just the same. oh well, in the absence of roy to whine about, they'd move on to someone else.

Instead of appealing, Roy Williams could have spent his time better by practicing how to tackle for-real, or how not to overruu the play which forces him to have to tackle from behind in the first place.

The funny thing is that in the DMN, Keith Davis was quoted as sayng: "Everybody knows I am going to have an expanded role this week...I feel I am more than capable of filling in for Roy and not let this team miss a beat."

Unfortunately, I agree with Davis, that he can fill in for Roy and produce similar results, but thats not because I think Davis is so good at Safety; I say it becase Roy's game has deteriorated to such a low second-string level that any second-teamer could prefectly match Roy's play this season, and especially as of late.

Hey, the proof is in the game tape (whether the apologists want to look at its recorded facts or not)!

I'm pretty sure that if you're suspended, you're not allowed to practice

He didn't overrun the play. Was Roy spying McNabb? Uh, no. If you want to blame someone for a QB scramble, how about the front 7? You know, those 7 guys Mcnabb had to run through before he got to the secondary?

Horse collar = textbook tackle that just happens to be illegal now because of wussification of the NFL.

Roy can't even appeal right. Bigby would have gotten off.

I'd blame the scheme personally, an article was just written, that in the past, when teams blitzed McNabb, they made sure to have someone spying him, usually a LB, so that he didn't just step up and run past the blitz, that didn't happen

McNabb kind of fooled everyone on Sunday

You obviously have never played the game in an organized setting if you call the horse-collar technique a textbook tackle.

And by the way, I'm not talking about this play vs. Mcnabb in particular (which Roy still took a bad angle on, by the way); Roy is often caught out of position in the running game and overruning those plays/taking bad angles/falling out of position. Like I said before: the tape tells this story quite factually.

And please spare us from your defense of Roy by apologizing his bad play on the basis of the front 7 not doing their jobs. Please! Roy is a safety, whose job is to safeguard the runner when the front 7 don't do their jobs. Like them, Roy whiffed on his job also.

He had no chance of winning the appeal... Did anyone for one second even think he might play, no way.... Hopefully he uses the week to rest up.

so Roy should have 112 tackles instead of his 62? I think we got more problems than Roy if that's the case

If we lose this game becuase Roy was stupid enough to get suspended and Keith Davis gets exposed we can't.

I can't say with any confidence anymore that if Keith Davis gets exposed on any particular play it would be a differnt outcome had Roy Williams been in there instead. The way Roy is playing lately, there's no real dropof from replacing him with a real backup.
