He got burned by Burress for 60 yards because his deep coverage failed -- he's got his coverage right but the other guy isn't there.

He gets "credit" for that catch that was clearly the safety's fault.

Henry admitted that he made a mistake in the coverage -- "I went inside and the safety had to go away, so that was a mistake on my behalf."

I'm pretty sure it was on Roy. Hamlin went with either a dif WR or the TE on an out/flag pattern and Roy was in the middle where the pass was caught. He bit on something short I think.

Roy never bit on anything short, and he wasn't in the middle. Roy was deep on his side of the field, over the top of Toomer, who was running right at him. Roy was right where he should have been, and Burress was clear on the other side of the field -- in front of Hamlin, who was going outside with Shockey -- when Manning threw the ball.

Henry's quote -- "I went inside and the safety had to go away, so that was a mistake on my behalf" -- implies that he should have switched off with Hamlin, but that Hamlin had to cover Shockey going outside when Henry followed Burress inside.

Whatever; Roy was still out of position a number of times. Go ahead and look at the Plaxico touchdown in the redzone. Roy could have had a go at it but once again he missed it. He is what he is, but I don't want to hear anybody defending his coverage skills when he is so glaringly bad at it.

some of you are very late to this party...way too many of you were way to quick to call him our defensive MVP his first 8 games against the Cowboys...I saw QBs missing open guys...or guys slipping on routes...or passes thrown right to him...he is an AVERAGE CB...ALWAYS has been...but it is OK for fans to be late...but the sad part is the organization is late on this one...I understand that in the salarly cap era you cannot devote big dollars to every position...but we cannot keep ignoring the CB position until the 7th round. THe funny part is..every since we drafted Newman, all we have done is use 7rh round picks at CB. The only time we did not was with Bruce Thornton, who Parcell plucked in the 4th round and then cut him. Spend premium pick on a quality CB

That was Roy's only bad play, coverage-wise (unless you count an incompletion).

He is what he is, but I don't want to hear anybody defending his coverage skills when he is so glaringly bad at it.

And that's the misperception -- he's not nearly as bad as some people seem to think.

If Roy is so bad in coverage and an easy target for opponents, why didn't the Giants throw more deep passes at him? They tried only one, and it was an incompletion. Out of all of the times he was 1-on-1 with Shockey, why did they throw at him only once?

For visual evidence, here's the frame from the instant when Manning threw the ball --

You can see Roy by the numbers on the right, near the Giants' 44-yard line, with Toomer in front of him and Reeves on Toomer's heels. On the deep left side of the field, you can see Burress running with Henry behind him, Shockey crossing toward the sideline (just to Henry's left in the photo) and Hamlin going toward the outside to cover Shockey.

There are only two guys who could possibly have been asked to cover Burress on that play -- Henry and Hamlin. And Henry admitted that Hamlin "had to leave" because he (Henry) made a mistake and went inside with Burress.

It really doesn't matter.. its not like we know the assignments of the secondary so a person we blame could of been doing their assignments but got hung out to dry because of someone else.. we just didn't get a consistent pass rush.. it showed flashes at times but when you give those WRs so much cushion and a QB with a quick release what do you expect???

If henry keeps up the crap play I bet Wade sits him for Reeves. It wouldnt surprise me one tad.Its one thing to be outta position, but he has no catch up speed at all.

Henry will be gone next year and I guarentee the team that picks him up will play him at safety. The thing that keeps him around is he has some good games here and there, but the bad games are outweighing the good now.its painfully obvious,if he doesnt have a complete turnaround he will be gone.
