I don't know about you, but I like the safeties on my team to actually have the ability to cover someone faster than a snail on Quaaludes.

But hey, Roy was a regular on "Jacked Up" for awhile so he must be good.

Hey.. we could dump Roy and sign Sean Taylor. That way we'd have a faster safety that gives up 3 TD's in 1 game instead of 3 TD's over the first 10 games.

linebacker blitzes don't work in the 3-4 unless you bring two. Zimmer doesn't understand this yet.
Roy's weakness is wrapping up or taking an angle where he wants to obliterate someone but misses and ends up diving for the ankles.

Yes he makes jarring hits but he misses some easy open field tackles now and again, it is real frustrating to watch.

I wouldn't want that overrated player either.

Must be nice to get a real safety in the fifth round like the Jets did with Kerry Rhodes.

I know what you mean. He's become real lazy with his technique. There was a time, early in his career, when this wasn't a problem.

Let him figure it out some where next year.

Why not? It's been discussed so much these past few years.. the guy can't cover. He looks way too much for the big play whether it may be the occasional int or bone jarring hit. Just stick him up front for this Sunday and watch him fly.

It would work in the nickel for Roy...not necessarily for the rest of the defense because we don't have a better safety to put back there.

As for every down defense, Please...Roy is not capable of playing LB...he's a DB.

Woodson and Ronnie Lott, two of the best and hardest tackling safeties in recent history, couldn't play LB....it's like saying Levar Kirkland, who was about 270 as a LB should try playing DT.

Derrick Johnson from Texas did that throughout his college career... he's having to learn how to take on blockers instead of running around them in the NFL. That doesn't work for LBers in the NFL... the RB's set up their blocks too well.

if im not mistaken DJ is doing quite well with KC doing what he does

Kirkland may have been listed at 270 but he was way over that but he could move for a big man. :laugh2:

i dont know if roy could be a LB in 4-3, i think he could in a cover two type defense. but i do know the guy cannot cover, so u either take a chance with him playing linebacker, or u live with the td's that he gives up

DJ is still playing well for a young LBer. Its just that in the few times I've seen him, he is forced to take on blockers and shed them. In college, he was so freaking athletic that he would just avoid the blockers and make plays.

I'm a HUGE DJ fan.. I watched the guy in High School, all through College, and haven't seen a whole lot of him in the Pros (but I am gonna try to start watching more KC games in the future).

not again with the Roy to LB thread: just look at the Philly game film when westbrook had his 16 yard run... Roy was at LB and got crushed by Andrews, you just cant turn a switch on a guy who has played safety his whole career and expect him to take on 300 lb lineman. It's not going to happen,so just get used to him the way he is,and someday we will get a pass rush and a safety who can help in coverage

It'd be a great idea until a 300 pound left guard pulls on a sweep and blows our franchise safety up.

Or instead of using him as a Cover 2 player, find a pass rush and a counterpart safety who can actually cover, and maybe we wont be having this conversation. Roy is an elite safety and one of the best in the league if the coaching staff would put maximize his strengths and put him in better situations to succeed.

Absolutely.

It's always a great idea to let your playmakers get away. Then you can wave at them while they kick your arse on their new squad.

Why does he have to kick our butt with another team, he does an excellent job of that with us!:laugh2:

Not taking sides at all. I just wanted to state that Kerry Rhodes is a Monsta!
