Roy vs #3's

how many more threads do we need on Roy?

he's overpaid but he's not awful--if he were our only option we'd be in trouble

That's why there are so many threads on him. Half of the people do think he's awful, while the other half don't.

Roy's the 4th here as well. Crayton had more yards than him.

i guess that argument could be made....he does have 26 more yards....but 2 fewer TDs on the same amount of attempts 37 to 38...so i guess we have 2 number 4s

:D I'm just glad we have Witten and Austin.

to be fair within the same line of thinking towards Witten being the 2 here......most of these guys are not really the 3rds on their teams they are the 4th...they have very good TEs who are getting the looks before them just like RW is

RW11: 38 Rec. 596 yrds. 7 TD's

Steve Breaston: 55 Rec. 712 yrds. 3 TD's

Bernard Berrian: 55 Rec. 618 yrds. 4 TD's (Shiancoe, Visanthe)

Micheal Jenkins: 50 Rec. 635 yrds. 1 TD (Tony Gonzales)

Austin Collie: 60 Rec. 676 yrds. 7 TD's (Dallas Clark )

Jason Avant: 41 Rec. 587 yrds. 3 TD's (Brent Celek)

Laveranues Coles: 43 Rec. 514 yrds. 5 TD's

So Roy's stats compare well to the 3rd target on other teams. Yes, he isn't being paid like a number 3 receiver but at the same time, Miles isn't being paid to be the number 1 receiver.
Gonzalez, & Clark are clearly second (if not first) options to their team so the OP is correct IMO. Hell, I'd argue that Witten is our #1 option when he's running routes on passing downs...

Can we have Roy renegotiate his contract and give 30 million of that money to Miles?

I am Roy supporter so this is not a bashing.

I look at these numbers and I see the yards are low. Obviously.
They are low because of fundamental shortcomings. Roy is known for his hands but yet he dropped simple passes. His yard could have been way higher. Probably highest on this list(somewhere around 800 yards).

As much as it would joy people to read this next part. Its not my intention. To fuel the Roy haters. But... if Roy would have been able to just "contribute" instead of drop easy passes. Run the right routes. Maybe he gets another 2-3 TD's and more importantly we win atleast 2-3 more games.

Who knows... maybe we play Vikings in the Deathstar?
Maybe things play out differently.

So, while it seems that Austin did enough to negate Roy's lack of contribution. He in fact did not. Roy hurt our placement in playoff seedings.

Meh.... on to 2010.
10 will get you 6?
11 will get you 7?

:)
