Roy Williams better step it up ....

:hammer:

Seems like some fans just love to find fault. It's one thing if a guy is a huge bust, like Rogers. But even when a guy is a multiple pro bowler, some fans -- we've all seen them -- love the "not living up to the hype" idea. So if the player had only been on two magazine covers instead of five, or got one Sportscenter mention instead of four, it would be okay -- but since the media or message board posters talk about him more than he "deserves", he's a disappointment?

It makes no sense to me. All that matters is, how does he play on the field, and does he help our team win. Roy is a huge asset to this team and every football coach in the world would love to have him on his team.

Thanks Sarge for reminding me what a voice of reason sounds like!Roy Williams is one of the last players I would be addressing if I was coach.Apparently cyber coaching is much different than reality!?!? :D

I don't have a problem with concerns being aired regarding Roy. Fans have been known to scrutinize their team's best players, moreso than the marginal ones in a lot of cases.

I think RW is a wonderful player and certainly not one I worry about too much. If he's used correctly, he an impact performer, no doubt.

Here's to hoping we are able to do so this season.

I think you will see it. I've seen glimpses of what he can do in this defense already!
AZ Game- Blew up Arrington for the fumble.
AZ Game- Had a clean shot on Warner, but got lost for some reason. Not a normal play for Roy.
Seattle game- Came on a blitz at the goal line with a big blow.
I bring these reason up, because I see how Troy Palimulu(SP), Pitts S has thrived in this D and I consider Roy a better and more rounded player than Troy. He have to make some adjustments, but all in all he is back in position that made DC fear him his rookie and 2nd year.
Didn't Roy blow the tackle at the goal line after the big blow?

Yeah yeah ...I know he was out of position last season -regardless, he wasn't Great...in fact he was poor in plenty of games...Big Hits don't mean much if you get burned or miss a coverage or tackle...

This season - I want a resounding Pro Bowl nomination....I want him to be the defensive leader...and playmaker.....

As of now....and I love Roy....he's a tad...a wee bit....over-hyped for his career. He's a Big Hitter, has made some big plays - BUT he is not GREAT ...yet.

This season ...I want "Great"

(And don't start the crap of attacking me personally - this is my observation of one of my favorite players)

I agree with you completely BA... He is a big hitter yes, but I want to see him dominate like he did in college...

Roy's first year he had the luxury of having a bonified true superbowl champion SS in Darren Woodson. So he made plays while learning.

In his second season he completely had to do things on with no help from Woodson who was supposed to be there. So just like that, he was forced to grow up in a position he'd never played.

Then they proceeded to put him deep in the secondary where he was way too far from the line.

That's why he blew Receivers up, that was all he could do that far off the line, but his speed and agility is not that good to be in space that much.

You wouldn't have Glover playing LB'r, but as a DT he is a pro-bowler.

Wait a minute! Attacking BadAttitude? When has that ever happened? :lmao2:

Actually, I understand what you are saying, but rest assured, he will step it up. He is in his natural element, now, and will learn to play SS in the professional game. He may never be the cover guy we all hope for, but you can count on him to bring the leather!(plastic, now? I don't want to show my age.)

The problem is, we all miss Woody! Roy will help us get over it!

I agree. Troy Polomalu is looking like the safety we thought Roy would be.

Roy IS the safety we thought he would be! And he will be the safety that sets the standard for years to come. He will be exceptional now that he is playing closer to the line.

I wouldn't trade Roy for any safety in the league!

. . .He needs to step it up period. A top 10 pick has to be a disruptive force and he hasnt been.

Can you say ProBowl? After two preseason games, it is now the "Hang Roy WIlliams" thread?

Isn't anyone optimistic or is it just about complaining? For the first time in years we are a legitimate playoff team! Not like '03, when we had QC at the helm and knew that round one was it for us, but a real contender that can take it to the next level.

ARRRGGGGHHH!

Can't anyone see that good things in Dallas????

Actually not having a catalytic playmaker may be the biggest problem on the defense the past two years, and that was the reason the Cowboys drafted a safety with a Top 10 pick. I understand he wasn't playing to his strengths, but aside from a few big hits, Roy was virtually non-existant last year.

And frankly, I don't put much stock into this "He had to play coverage too much". Ugh, that's what safeties do! They are defensive back! If Roy Williams can't do anything outside the box, then we should have just drafted a really good linebacker with that Top 10 pick.

Roy is so limited and such a liability in coverage. Sometimes I wonder if he isn't the 3rd or 4th best all around safety just in this division alone, behind Sean Taylor, Brian Dawkins and Michael Lewis.

and troy polomalu has had his front 7 do alot better job then roy williams front 7 has done for him.

some of you really scare me with your logic.THE ONLY SAFETY BETTER THAN ROY IS ED REED.period

Happy to see that most people here agree with me - Make no mistake - this is Roy's year....he needs to become the face of the Cowboys..I know he's had some big games..but I want 16 Loud ones...if you know what I mean...

For those of you telling me about last season and being out of posiiton....save it. Great ones play where they're told and do it well.

Get it done Roy.

No need to attack you personally this time (though of course, you bring that on yourself with your posting style)... I'll just point out that if you really know football, you know WHY Roy had a disappointing season last year-- he was being forced to play out of position at FS, where his weak point (coverage) was emphasized, while his strong point (playing in the box) was negated...

This year, he will play his natural position exclusively, a position that fits his skills much better... therefore, it is eminently reasonable to expect him to play somewhat better...

Great post SB. Roy played completely out of his normal position last year. His entire career in Oklahoma he was used at SS and often times cheated up into the box for huge plays. That is what you will see this year.

BA brings all this crap on his own self. Correct. Its all about his posting style. The guy never has a positive thing to say. We used to have another poster like him in the pas before Zone moved. The name BadBoyRoy ring any bells for folks? :D

a fs is only as good as his pass rush.when will you guys learn that?

ed reed=superb pass rush

dawkins=superb pass rush.

and those are the only two "ball hawk" safetys i see that are GREAT.

and polamalu is a strong safety.

Whatever. People know what the situation was last year and seem to forget the plays he made 2 years ago. He is going back to where he was then and will be making plays all over the field again this year. We have much bigger fish to fry than getting wound up about Roy Williams.
