But players are paid based on their perceived worth to the team. So when we pay a guy as much money as we paid Roy Williams, a certain level of production is expected. The #1 and #2 labels, in my opinion, simply come from measuring Williams' productivity relative to the rest of the receivers on the team, which is perfectly legitimate.
Like I said the distinction between #1 and #2 would not really mean much if every player was paid the same amount of money, as it'd be inconsequential. But when you have a lot of money invested in a specific guy, you hope he produces at a certain level, as you have only a limited amount of money to work with.
I don't have any money invested in Roy though. Jerry does. So that being said, #1 or #2 or stats don't mean a thing to make. Production does. This is sort of off topic but I saw last night the 76ers who gave Elton Brand 80 million dollars about two offseasons ago is now coming off the bench. The 76ers broke I believe a 12 game lose streak last night. Do you believe the 6ers are saying to themselves "Man.....we won but we're paying Elton Brand to come off the bench" Or do you think they're just happy they won?
I just get tired of this whole contract talk about Roy. Money isn't a issue with this team. Contracts can be restructured. So for those that feel they have to hate Roy because of his contract? It doesn't matter.
