Roy Williams now #3?

My apologies if this has been covered already, but is it safe to say that Roy E. Williams is now the Cowboys' #3 receiver? I really expected Kitna to throw to him a decent amount since the two of them played together for several years, but in watching the JAX game, it seemed like Roy W. was only out there in three receiver sets. In two WR sets, it seemed like Dez was out there a lot more, along with Miles. Am I mistaken?

PS: I know this is largely irrelevant given the team's pathetic performance on all sides, and I'm certainly not arguing whether Roy SHOULD be the #3 WR (I think he should), I'm just curious if anyone else noticed what I noticed.

Austin and Dez should be 1-2 punch IMO.

Roy, while playing well needs to show blood, sweat and tears and contribute as #3.

Austin and Dez are flat out better.

It should be Miles, Dez, and Roy in a 3 wr set and just throw to the open man. Too bad our line sucks and doesn't allow that to happen. Man, this sounds soooo good on paper. But in reality they'd only catch like 2 balls and tip 5 for interceptions.

As far as I know, he's still #11.

Thanks, everybody. Try the fish.

Seriously, though, was I the only one who thought the thread was about a jersey change?

I don't think it's safe to say that yet. Some made this same comment after the first two games, then Roy came back and did more than Austin in a few games. I think it's still evolving, but as Dez learns more and becomes less prone to rookie mistakes thing should end up shifting noticeably in his favor.

I think Roy still gets more reps than Dez. When Dez is out there Kitna throws it to him. For whatever reason he doesn't feel safe throwing it to Roy. In Detroit all he did was throw it deep to Roy. That's not our offense here.

Until Austin starts catching the balls coming his way, I'd have no problem with Roy or Dez going to #1 while the other goes to #2.

Agreed. Miles might need to be humbled a little bit right about now.

Dez is not ready to be the starter. I don't know, I guess I'm pissing in the wind here. I realize that this is not what you folks want to hear but it's true. Dez is not ready to be a starter in the NFL at this point.

would it matter, would his being number 2 take us out of the playoffs for sure? Would we be taking out of the SB battle? maybe nows the time to let him make his mistakes and prep for next season.

Miles and Dez are going to be SO dangerous together if we can get an O-Line to give them the time to get open and do their thing

For whatever reason everyone wants to force him into the lineup. He shows up late to practices and meetings and doesn't know the playbook so everyone wants to reward him by making him starter. And he probably will be with this coaching staff.

I little off topic but why do we not throw it deep?
because you can really only throw the ball maybe 10-15 yards while laying on your back.

Considering we're likely to be throwing the ball 40-50 times a game for the rest of the year, I'm sure all the receivers are gonna put up some wicked stats.

Probably not a lot of TDs, cause that's not how we do things here, but they'll get a butt load of yards

I think they have to time to take seven step drops at times.
