ok who started the last game ???????????????

I could have sworn I saw Dez

It was Roy actually. Dez isn't ready to be a starter in this league yet. Still has alot to learn. You'll hear Sherman and Garrett say the same. The little things take time though. He's gonna be great, but so far this year, RW is our best WR. Miles has dropped too many balls and Dez isn't consistent enough yet. Roy has caught almost everything thrown on target to him and makes plays in the redzone. We need all 3 of them to be successful so its really a moot point who starts or not.

Yeah, I'm a longhorn myself. But that just makes me more qualified to comment on his talent. I've watched him since he was a teenager. I know what he can do. You've seen him with the Cowboys and in the NFL. Mind you, he's had a couple good years in the NFL, this being one of them.

Too bad the rest of the team isn't playing up to par.

You are probably right, but given the realities of the Cowboys record right now, might as well use the remaining portion of the season as an extended preseason for next year. Which means that guys like Dez play as much as possible so that they can be better for next year.

LOL. And Mike Williams is, right? So much for that argument.

What does Mike Williams have to do with anything?

Does he have to be the starter to get him experience for next year? Seems to me he is being used quite a bit already, so what difference does it make to be designated the "starter"? It is easily possible to gt him plenty of playing time without overexposing the team to rookie mistakes, so why not go about it that way?

And the guy that is starting in front of him is?

If the kid didn't have 7 more receptions in what seems like very limited playing time, than a highly paid 7 year vet, you might have a leg to stand on.

And maybe if he wasn't a threat to score practically every time he touches the ball or he didn't appear to be a leader this rudderless ship so desperately needs.

As it is, at least a 1-8 coaching staff (oops, that won't be the record for a few more weeks) agrees with you so you got that on your side of the argument.

Before I would lean to heavily on this statement, I would look at who has been targeted more. Dez gets his share of balls. Say what you want about the Cowboys coaching staff but Sherman, the Cowboys WR coach is pretty respected in the NFL. If Dez were ready, I'd imagin Sherman would know and he would make a move. That hasn't happened. I think that probably says something.

Exactly.. this is what they've pretty much been doing in the first place. Some people here just get way too hung up on the "starter" label.

You're right. It's exactly what they have been doing. No one can say the team hasn't been giving him plenty of playing time and plenty of opportunity to get acclimated to the NFL and the offensive scheme. He's shown enough talent to tell us that we should keep playing him, but made enough rookie mistakes to tell us that he isn't quite ready to have his role bumped up further. Nothing wrong with that. It just makes sense to keep him moving down the same basic path for now.

Yeah he is. Just throw him the ball. His size and body position alone makes him a good target.

Natural receiver and will make plays. Is he perfect, no but he is IMO the best player on our team right now!

I little off topic but why do we not throw it deep?

I wish I knew the answer to that question. Sunday when we had the 3 WR set Roy, Miles or Dez had man to man covergae on them. Kitna just had to figure out which one and throw the ball!

The point is, having physical skills and being ready to start are not the same thing. Dez is making rookie mistakes and he needs to learn. Sure he needs to be a target in the offense, and he is. The team isn't ignoring him, so what exactly is there to complain about?

You did, they started the game in a 3 WR set.

My point is this. We are a team that lacks focus , desire and passion. Dez, on the other hand lacks none of these as far as I have seen. The best player on the team at this point in time. Start him and reward him for being that example. He may make mistakes but he is not one of the players that has given the ball away this year.

Dez does lack focus at times. There have been a few passes that whizzed by his head because he wasn't ready for them, and he has been confused on his routes at times.

I agree he has passion, and he has talent, but the fact is he is already being rewarded for that. As a rookie, if he didn't have that he wouldn't be getting the action the team is already giving him. It would be hard for any rookie WR to ask for more opportunites to play and catch passes than Dez is already getting.

Well, I would not call him the best player at this point. I think DWare is our best player and possibly the best player in the league. However, that is not cogent to the discussion so we can table that for the time being.

As I see it, Dez is in the perfect position right now. He is getting plenty of playing time. He is in an offense that can bring him along correctly. He has the opportunity to learn the game and not have undue pressure that comes along with starting. As the 3rd WR, his snaps can be monitored by the coaching staff so as not to wear the guy out by the 10th game of the season and he is seeing the 3rd Corner from the opposing teams. It is a much more favorable match up then having to match up against the starter all the time. It's in his best interest to be brought along in this manner.
