Bummer for Roy - he was playing well

Bengals safety Roy Williams placed on injured reserve

While one Roy Williams has disappointed in Dallas, the former Cowboy safety Roy Williams has been trying to revive his career with the Bengals.

The strong safety played well while starting four games in Cincinnati, but the team was forced to end his season Friday when it placed him on injured reserve with a forearm injury. The chronic forearm problem for Williams also ended his 2008 season early.

Williams returned Wednesday to a full practice before sitting out Thursday, so it appears he suffered a setback. The Bengals are relatively deep at the position with Nedu Ndukwe taking over. Hard Knocks favorite Tom Nelson will now be more involved in the defense.

Williams' absence will hurt the Bengals rush defense, but they have got used to playing without him all year. He will be a free agent this offseason.

The Bengals activated wideout Maurice Purify, who will help take Chris Henry's place among the wideout group.

Hate to hear that, I was hoping Roy could get things going again in Cinn.

Is this a complication from his injury with the Cowboys?

I saw him play earlier this season a little bit, and I thought he looked really good. Bad break for him.

I'm guessing Rosenthal must have missed the Philly game. The Romo to Williams connection is starting to work now.

You usually don't consider a forearm a chronic issue, but it's possible that he may have some lingering bone damage.

Yeah that's a little strange to suffer a chronic broken bone. Can't they put a plate in?

That is too bad for Roy Cincy.

But why the dig at the Cowboys' Roy? I have eaten so much hate lately that I am full. I need to put this away for later.:)

even with that game which wasn't even a big game he has disapointed so far.

So far, we have 8 games remaining and if RW and Romo start clicking week in and week out no one is going to care about the trade

I hope it ain't career threatening.

if it is the same forearm it might be. it sounds like the bone didn't heal well - I expect he has several plates in there already.

I too hope that they start connecting - I don't think that we go too far this season without that working. The trade, and Roy's salary have longer-term impacts than just this season, so hopefully he will justify it by becoming a top receiver at some point.

This we agree on. Up to this point the trade has not looked so good however that is something that RW and Tony can change. The fact they are willing to work to make it happen gives me hope they will make it happen.

Mike Sharrard had the same chronic broken bone problem in his legs. His career never really got going because of it. Broke his leg twice with Dallas, and once with SF before hanging it up.

I think the Dallas medical staff is partly to blame for Williams' arm now being a chronic problem. There was no reason to rush him back last year after he first broke the arm. Instead of letting his arm fully heal they had him out there after only 5 weeks in the most ridiculous cast I have seen a player wear and he re-injured it.
