Roy Williams (WR)... who starts on the other side? Holt? another FA?

maybe they're gambling that teams won't go for him at that amount

but all indications beforehand makes releasing TO not look like a split-second decision

I disagree.

I see no valid evidence that this was a well-planned move, and Austin's 2nd round tender says that to me.

The idea that they've talked to receivers doesn't do it for me.

They talk to players they don't draft every year.

under TO's tenure, can you point to us talking to that many receivers in 1 year?

btw, Dan Reeves confirmed that when he was visiting, there were discussions about TO

and c'mon, a receiver w/ 19 catches receiving the 2nd-round tender isn't a very good telling point

I'm not saying I'm right or you're wrong.

Just saying that I don't feel this thing has been well-planned.

But I don't think a lot of things happening around this team are well-planned either.

And despite those 19 catches, I think this team badly wants Austin to be part of its' future.

He was coming into his own last season before injuries derailed it.

Think of it this way:

Where would the Cowboys be right now if someone signed Austin to a contract the Cowboys couldn't match?

they'd have ammo to move up and get a guy like Kenny Britt, or Brian Robiskie

If there is no CBA exntension(won't be) Austin won't be unrestricted til he has 6 years.

Yeah, but that doesn't stop someone from signing him now.

In researching a bit on Torry Holts' situation, I don't see Dallas or anyone else trading for him.

He's in the final year of a 6 year $42 million deal and he's got a base salary of $6.65 million with a $1.25 million roster bonus due on March 17th.

I expect he'll be released right before that date and be free to negotiate with anyone.

Maybe Dallas takes a look at that point, but who knows?

Man if ROy Williams has a serious Injury this coming year, which is a possibility because of his fragility...WE ARE DOOMED!! TO was the cornerstone, Crayton was just hanging around and ROy was a reassurance now that has all changed...

And if somebody wants to stick it to the Cowboys, offering Austin a poison pill contract would do the job right about now, wouldn't it?

and I think that's highly possible...WHY? because some teams have really pathetic receiving corps...and one thing the Cowboys don't have....lots of CAP ROOM....JJ better pray, its a dog eat dog world baby...

Maybe, but that's the case in any event for any position. If TO had gotten hurt, we would have been hurting as well, but having 2 #1 wrs isn't the norm on teams. Yes, there is a need to get another WR, but no need to have to pay big time for a second one.

Cap room isn't the issue. It's what Jerry wants to pay at this point. There are options, not super attractive ones in Holt, Harrison, or Galloway... but they are options nonetheless.

Here is hoping Galloway returns for a one or two year deal. Then we could recreate the TO/Glenn combo with RW/Galloway for a year when we are still in a good position to get in the playoffs.

In regards to Austin, he is a good wr, but nothing that is super special. Even in this situation, I would rather have a second round pick, replace Austin with another cheap wr like Curry, and use the second on a need like OL, DT, or S. That would work out real well.

Right now I believe it's going to be between Austin and Crayton for the #2 role.

And it's funny to me how there are actually people bringing up Joey Galloway as a replacement when it seemed like for the last year now that anytime he was brought up around here it was only to mock Jerry for wasting his time with him.

Before he was a waste of time but now that he's older, coming off of a season where he couldn't stay healthy for more than 5 snaps at a time, now he's an option?

Good times.
