He was my favorite player in the draft. I wanted him more than I have wanted another player since Jamaal Charles. Ironically, both were drafted by the Chiefs, and both could have easily been Cowboys. We sacrificed our 3rd for a pass rusher who is now injured (hindsight, I know). Still, I believe we could have found a quality pass rusher at our regular spot, kept our 3rd and got Gaines. We would still have gotten our pass rusher, but also upgraded the CB position. With all the injuries, Gaines would be getting lots of work and experience right now.

Zach Kerr

Several of us wanted this guy. If I recall correctly, xwalker had him as a big pet cat, and I trust his talent evaluation. So I looked into him and came away impressed. By the time the draft came around, I wanted to get Ken Bishop and Zach Kerr, as I thought both would be absolute steals and solidify a weak and feeble interior DL. Well, we got Bishop, but missed out on Kerr. I would have taken Kerr instead of Ben Gardner.

Kerr is absolutely turning heads in Indy. The way they are talking about him is the way we are talking about Mincey after the game last night.

feel free to join in and rue away.....

There were 3 DE's we wanted and felt there was a talent dropoff after that. After 2 were drafted DLaw fell out of the 1st the Cowboys felt they were getting 1st round talent in the 2nd round so they made the move. After just 3 months it's hard to argue one way or the other if it was a good move or not. Being injured now has nothing to do with evaluating that either.

Demarcus Lawrence is going to have to be one heck of a player to justify all we gave up.

Giving up a 2 & 3 for Lawrence and then turning around and drafting Hitchens is currently killing this defense.

The jury is still out on Hitchens. In fact I heard Nate on the radio on Friday saying that out off all the players he came away most impressed by him more than anybody at camp. He said that he just needs to play. And play a lot.

1) We only gave up a 3rd round pick to move up in the 2nd round. We didn't give up a 2nd and a 3rd for Lawrence. Not by my math. It cost us a 3rd round pick to swap 2nd round slots with Wash.

2) Tell me you weren't seriously expecting two rookies in Lawrence and Hitchens to be the saviors of the defense this year. Lawrence and Hitchens 'currently killing this defense.' Talk about some unreal expectations. Lee, Melton, DL McClain, Carr, and Claiborne not playing a down so far are most likely 'currently killing this defense.' Hopefully, 4 of those 5 will be out there soon and good to go come game 1.

I also wanted Max Bullough, he went undrafted......we could have gotten him, but he went to Houston instead. He is playing ok from what I have read, not blowing things up for sure.

You have unreasonable expectations for mid-round draft picks.

And OP, how can you rue picks after two preseason games? If Lawrence develops into a stud DE, will you still rue?

Had we not traded for Lawrence we would have drafted the Mizzou kid in the 2nd & Trai Turner - G from LSU in the third, this has already been said by the front office. CB was never even in sight.

It's ok to be quick with the judgment if it's negative.

But lord help you if you got a positive view.

My major rueage lies with not drafting Steven Jackson and letting Danny Amendola go.

That being said I was also sold on Adrian Hamilton... so...

Jackson is certainly understandable. But Amendola? not in this galaxy

Agree. I would have taken Kerr over Gardner. It's too bad they didn't get him as a UDFA.

Yeah, I've heard him say twice now that he loves Hitchens. And Hitchens was about the only defensive player he liked, so it's not like he was homering out over everyone.

Rueing after two preseason games?

Sounds like Premature Rueage

I can sympathize. It stinks seeing your pet cats hanging out in your neighbors' yards.
