Rule changes you would like?

I can't believe so many people want PI to be 15 yards.
Whats going to stop DBs from just mugging recievers when they're deeper than 15 yards?

Never really noticed that kind of thing in college.

But you'll still get a first down. It protects the D better if the ref's blow the call, and they aren't exactly consistent on calling it.

Plus, there's no guarantee that the catch would have been made had the PI not occurred.

I don't think any penalty should be more than 15 yards.

Plus, regarding off-setting penalties, they need to change that. If one is a 15 yarder, and one is 5 yarder, make it a 10 yarder for whoever got the lesser penalty. It should only off-set if they are equal in value of yards penalize.

2) coaches should not have to burn a TO under 2 minutes because they want to give the officials time to decide if they want to review a play. I think any play that is at all questionable should be reviewed upstairs. It's already under 2 minutes, it shouldn't be making the game that much longer to do that.

Instead of half the distance to the goal penalties, give an option of half the distance or adding half the distance to the required first down distance. I had this all thought out at one point and posted it on here, but it was like a year ago.

Needs to be a rule for piling on after fumbles. I get so sick and tired of thinking one guy got the ball for sure and then 5 people run and jump into the pile and we have to wait nearly a full minute for the pile to be cleared and figure out who ENDED UP with the ball.

Start adding a delay of game penalty to every player who comes into contact with the pile after an official has come into the area to make the decision.

5. Field goals beyond 55 yards - 4 points.

Thoughts? Additions? Arguments?

So reward a team for NOT advancing the ball?

The change I'd make is not changing the OT rules. Defense is part of the game. If a team can't stop the other team they deserve to lose.

To be consistent, you'd then have to get rid of all kinds of field goals.
I see this as some kind of three point shot for football. They did it in the NFL Europa and it didn't really hurt the game. Just gives you another opportunity to risk more and be rewarded with more points. You do the same when kicking an onside kick. trading reward for risk. Can't see whats wrong with that.

Another rule I'd change is the touchback. You basically gift wrap 20yds to an inefficient return team. If a kickoff is that good, the kicking team should be rewarded. This catching, thinking and then kneeling down in the endzone sucks. Make it 10yds to give the offense some breazing room.

tuck rule: get rid of it.

What NFL rules are out of line? What would you like to see changed?

For me:

1. Get rid of Instant Replay. It simply doesn't work. Obviously.

2. Pass Interference - why is this the only penalty (that I can think of) where you can get like a zillion yards? Isn't it tough enough being a corner in the NFL, arguably the hardest position to play? If PI is "spot of the foul", why isn't holding on the offense? I would limit PI to a 15-yard penalty.

3. IF Instant Replay stays, then *I* say, do NOT limit what can be reviewed. EVERYTHING can be reviewed. Period. No ambiguity. No BS. And that INCLUDES mistaken whistles by the refs. Fair is freaking fair.

4. Overtime. I think the college game has it right. But instead of the 25 yd line as in college, I think the Pros should start at the 45 or 50 yd line.

5. Field goals beyond 55 yards - 4 points.

You can challenge if the refs suck and if you win they get kicked and a new crew comes in.

I agree replay sux and has too many stupid rules within rules that make no sense. That said, the officiating is so pathetically bad that replay is needed as a crutch for it.

There'd be nothing wrong with PI if they'd call it right, the problem is more often than not, they dont.

See above. As bad as the officiating is, games would take 5 hours or more to play if they had to review all the crap they messed up.

4. Overtime. I think the college game has it right. But instead of the 25 yd line as in college, I think the Pros should start at the 45 or 50 yd line.

There's nothing wrong with the OT system, the NFL is vastly better than that junk they do in college.

5. Field goals beyond 55 yards - 4 points.

No. If they do that, would they then change 50 yd tds to 7 pts, 60 yd tds to 8 pts etc etc?

Thoughts? Additions? Arguments?

The answer is REAL FULLTIME OFFICIALS. Not this bush league garbage we see out there now. And there should be a major behind the scenes investigation into some of these crews, who I absolutely believe are doing their best to fix games. If the NFL really believes all their refs are in-corruptable, I've got some ocean front property in Hos's neck of the woods for them.
