So much talky talk about this, so little of it citing the rules.

Here's an article, unfortunately from 2015.
https://www.footballzebras.com/2015/01/everything-you-need-to-know-about-eligibility-reporting/
I haven't seen *anyone* mention this yet:
The referee will make an announcement of the ineligible player who is reporting, then signal by sweeping his hands vertically in front of his chest (as if “erasing” the number) and point to the newly eligible player.

I'm not in the mood to check the video on this right now, but it would be a double check on the Ref's *intention* of reporting 70 as eligible.

Here's the 2023 NFL Operations Manual. Doesn't really say much. I think there is a more detailed NFL rulebook that expands on the rules with scenarios.

So were the refs right or wrong????????????????????
We really dont know. The empirical evidence suggests they made the right call. 70 came off the bench after speaking with Campbell and hit himself in the chest suggesting he was reporting. And the refs said he reported not decker. And Goff did not tell the ref they got it wring when it was announced over the pa. I believe it was a concerted by effort by Campbell to screw dallas by confusing the refs and getting the points by preventing dallas from covering decker. None of this make sense other than this scenario unless we believe 70 is on drugs, coming off the bench, and reporting when decker was reporting.

Someone had on one of the post the ref’s audio declaring #70 as eligible. You can’t have multiple people declaring on the same play.

No doubt the league is going to thoroughly review the standard, process, and procedures this off-season - and eliminate any loopholes that teams have used to be deceptive = gain an advantage.
Yes it is called cheating and not a loophole. There is a rule that provides for ineligible to be eligible. Campbell sought to circumvent that rule for obvious reasons. You dont cover ineligible people. So CHEATING. No other explanation. It was not drugs, no confusion, it was cheating. And Campbell will do it again believe me. He is a win at all costs guy including cheating. See Bellichick.

Rex is a jerk. What he cannot explain is why 70 came in off the bench from speaking with coach and patted his chest to say Im the guy. Im eligible. If the refs are wrong, why did he do that? It makes absolutely no sense. He runs over to the refs by the way as well as if reporting. This was an play orchestrated to trick the refs, knowing there was a possibility they give them the score due to confusion created by Detroit and the only downside would be a 5 yard penalty and replay down if it did not work. All crafted cheating all disgusting to me.

70 as announced as declared over the PA. This is done to notify the defense but also to give the offensive coaching staff a chance to act if there is a problem. Campbell let it ride and even if a mistake was made by the refs, he did not use the failsafe. The 2 refs on the sideline are there for a reason. That is 100% on Campbell and his staff.

so why are people talking and making it seem like it was a bad call from the refs, if it was wrong then it's wrong

..the fact is,.Lions tried to play hookey.

Belichick.move. Mix everything up, so that you get the advantage.
Classic Bellichick cheating whether stealing calls, deflating footballs or other ways to cheat to win. Campbell is a cheater and will continue to cheat and this will now be his legacy. It will continue people. There are plenty of deceptive plays involving play action, motion, misdirection, fake punts and the like that are not cheating. Refusing dallas an opportunity to cover decker because he was not eligible and he scores is cheating.

There is no evidence provided by anyone that decker reported or if he did and 70 ran on pounding his chest they took him as the eligible. It can be either mass confusion on the part of Detroit or unmitigated cheating no other alternative.
