RUMOR: Bobby Carpenter thought for sure he was being traded

Mostly because if we don't, people go way overboard and decide to create a stir. No matter what course we choose to navigate someone will think it is wrong. What we try and do is weigh the overall reaction to something.

What I posted about Roy Williams desire to play here was 100% true, but look at the reaction to it because the trade did not happen. That was with the word RUMOR in the title. I didn't originally put it there, but agreed with the Mod who did that it should have been there.

I too believe Cajun 100%. That word isn't there for guys like you and me who come to respect the posters who share this info. It's for those who over react to everything because they aren't the center of attention on a topic.

What I shared about Roy Williams was never about me. I wasn't looking for any kudos if the trade went down. I felt it was news we all would love, and not because he played at Texas. There are still people who think I made all of that up despite the media attention to it in cities who have writers who do not read this forum. It should be pretty clear to anyone who doesn't breathe through their mouth that I posted a legit story way back in September. But it isn't. It's just too much fun for some people to act like jerks and pretend their skepticism is proof that someone else is unreliable.

This forum has lost some great posters input because of the way people react to what they share. We've had people join this site because someone they know and love is on the team. They share something and because they don't have 3000 posts people rip into them and they end up leaving or not posting the info they offer. Jealousy is a powerful emotion and it brings out the worst in otherwise good people.

All we're doing is trying to stem the storm so that people will continue to share the info they get. I happen to know Barber feared he was going to be traded too. Have you ever seen me post it before right now? I knew the reaction to that info would go overboard, because he believed it would be in a move up for McFadden. That is 100% true, but I have no corroboration that anyone would accept. I chose to keep it to myself. Not even the word RUMOR would have saved that thread. Think about it, why wouldn't Barber fear that when every hack reporter out there speculated it? But if I had posted it, all hell would have broke loose on this forum.

Excellent response. It's sad that the immediate overreaction to information we get here means the we actually end up being less well informed. I try to make reasoned judgments about the stories I see, and I never attack someone based upon a low post count (unless it's a blatant Commander troll :p: ). I hope you (the mods) attempt to police this kind of behavior. I'll note that Cajuncowboy has not been attacked for his information, although it's not very controversial so perhaps it doesn't fit with some of the more sensational items that come out.

Like I said, we have to make judgment calls. Perhaps if we hadn't added that someone would have made a big deal about it. We do attempt to police it, but if we remove the posts we're "thought police." No matter what decision we make on a subject someone will question it. We try and take the road that the absolute fewest will.

I do of course believe Cajun spoke with Carp cousin and I do believe his cousin said everything that was listed in the post..

But I don't think his cousin has a clue, lol.

Why would we trade away a LB who can play inside and out who was a high round draft pick and keep a one dimnsional ILB who is older and taken a whole lot more punishment on the body?

Also, Carp has said in two different interviews that he spoke to the team about being traded and they assured him he will get an opportunity to 'show and prove' this season.

Now maybe Carps cousin hadn't spoken to him since last season or something, that could have been the case.

Hey CNN, what's the word in your part of the world about the Saints and Giants working on a Shockey trade?

He said he talked to him right after the draft so it would have had to be the Miami deal. As for the Gints and Shockey, I don't know. I live in Music City USA! :D

I have family there however and they are thinking he will be coming there sometime during camp. Don't know why they think that but some of them do.

I think Carpenter is a gamer. If they'd just let him lose in a regular season game he'd probably play well.

I agree. You can't really judge a guy from practice, and when he has had the chance to play a lot, he has played well.

He was judged by how he played in the final pre-season game last year -- he stank and the coaches had no faith in playing him after that. as to the practice comment, if you can't show your coaches that you know what you are doing in practice then it is clear that you either aren't good enough to play or smart enough to know practice is important.

and for the record -- I was 100% behind the Carp pick in 2006.

Carp ought to get a chance to play behind (or potentially in a rotation with) Zach Thomas. Thomas comes with no health garentees at this point in his career.

Doesn't Burnett play the "Mo" LB position with Zach and Carpenter play behind James?

I could be wrong, but I think that's how they're doing it this year.
