Now this is a rumor that I can get on board with. I'd be willing to go as high as a 3rd round pick. $8 mil cap hit (assuming I'm looking at it right) isn't terrible. At 30, he still has a couple years of good productivity left. Immediate upgrade to the outside pass rush. I hope this is true.
I would have loved to have him at 30..... unfortunately he is 34

No idea what the actual cost would be but for a later round pick? Sure.

I like wake but at this point it might not be worth it. But what do I know.

He's 34. You know, the "wrong side of 30."

I'm perfectly content to sit tight here, but Wake would be a guy who'd make some sense for us if we could make it work for MIA.

Do we even have the cap space to absorb his contract?
Nearly. That wouldn't be an issue as we just freed up some with the Doug Free contract tweak and are nearly there. It would. It be a huge undertaking to accommodate and still be in good shape for next year.

He was 30 more than a couple years ago. He is 34 now.

That said, I hope we get him (just not for a 3rd given his age)

We don't have a 5th next year. You can thank Matt Cassel for that.

Ugh, I completely mis-read that, yikes he's 34..yeah then no way I'd spend a 3rd....

Contract Notes:
  • $10M guaranteed (2016 salary + $3M of 2017 salary)
  • $2M more of 2017 salary guarantees with 15 sacks in 2016.

So our hit would be 3.9M for the last 9 games this year. I didn't realize he has two more years after this one. I thought he was only a 2017 contract. Easy to get out of, so I don't think the contract numbers are gonna stop a trade. I wouldn't go more than a 4th, and even a 4th is questionable at 34 years old.

He has 10 sacks in his last 14 games played over this season and last season. He'd be an instant upgrade to our line -- and a fairly significant one, at that.

I'd be all over this move. I wouldn't go crazy with draft-pick compensation, but I'd likely be willing to pour in a little more than I'd otherwise be inclined to do based on the level of contention this team is in.

It's 8 AM tomorrow in Fiji!!!

I love CowboysZone. :D

I'm okay with a one, possibly two, year deal but a longer deal seems like a stretch for a 34 year old.
