Rumor: Cowboys to pass on Jeanty

You must of missed a lot. He's a top 3 player in this draft behind Hunter and maybe Carter. If he's there at 12 he's 100% the BPA and should be the pic. This team has only had true success with a great running game and never had a great running game with running back by committee or with a 5th rounder running the rock.
I don't disagree with him being the best player. However the shelf life for a top back is 4 to 5 years. That is the shortest of any position in the NFL. If we only needed a running back I would agree with you, but we have so many holes. I think O line is 1A and the number one need and there are only a few really good ones available. I think D line is 1B in need. That's either DT or edge rusher. Now, that need may change if we bring in some good free agents, but Jerry has been sitting on his wallet for years, so who knows.

It doesnt like certain key words. I'm not walking on egg shells to bypass the filters. You would show up to a battle of wits unarmed anyway. I've seen enough of you already to know you're a paper tiger.

I think I might be all in on Jeanty. I know all the reasons not to draft him. They're fine.

But it's a weak draft at the top. I'm willing to invest the pick on a RB who can score from anywhere, even if we just get 5 years out of him. I won't be heartbroken if we miss out on him. But there's practically no other prospect that can have the same impact on this team.

IMO if this true, then there's a chance they feel the same about the loaded DT position. They will use 12 to fill an opening starting position with limited depth in the draft ( think WR, Oline, LBer, CB IMO ) This article makes me think OLine or CB. Stephen Jones says he would hope any player drafted in top 12 will be with the team for at least 8-9 years.
Would not surprise me. Instead of getting the best player at a position, we'll settle for eighth-best or 10th-best because of the depth of the position.

I can understand needing to read the draft, but I have trouble passing on a top five player in the draft to reach for the 13th-15th player because he'll be with the team longer.

So not drafting the best player available again. Smart move. Honestly I've gotten used to not caring as much anymore, didn't even watch a full game through this season, first time since 91.
You may consider a few things

1. Draft hasn't happened yet, we have no idea if he will even be there at 12

2. He's a 30 day visit

3. This is a rumor. Not set in stone fact

4. Draft hasn't happened yet, we have no idea if he will even be there at 12

So in your mind if not Jeanty at 12 there couldn't possibly be another back drafted in 2nd or 3rd round? It has to be a 5th round guy?

This team could use help at most spots.
OL, DT, DE, LB and WR with a lesser chance of DB.

There should be a good player there to be taken that also fits a need.
Whether that is RB or another position.

Well put.

Sometimes the draft is as simple as taking the top 5 player that lands in your lap. Value be damned. Take the elite talent and build from there.

Don't tell me they're actually going to be next level thinking in this draft?

RB is the #1 need of this team. But passing on Jeanty in order to take a position that is also very much needed (like DT/DE/LB/OL/WR) and not nearly as deep is the smart play.
Grab a difference maker for another position but fucus on RB at 44 or 76 at the latest. But be mindful not to miss out on all worthy prospects, again.

Yeah, I understand that obviously we could draft anyone anywhere but Jeanty is elite. He's that Emmitt, LT type RB who could really turn this team around. No other RB in the draft has that ability this year.
