BUT.. I do think that having Duckett makes them a better team than not having Duckett.. He may have averaged only 3.1 yards per carry last season, but a ton of his carries were in short yardage situations

Duckett wasn't good in those short yardage situations. They've been looking to move him since last season ended and his lack of effectiveness in short yardage is why.

He's a strange runner. Sometimes he'll look really great, and then sometimes he'll look painfully slow. I guess it depends on which Duckett shows up.

There's still ladell betts, did i get that name right ? anyway, i think its more likely that if Portis cannot go, betts would get 15-20 carries and TJ would get aboit 10.....i'm not certain that TJ will become THE GUY even if Portis out.

This move makes me think there is a lot more the Portis's injury that is being let on. Especially with what they gave up to get him. I dont' think Betts is a every down guy.

The problem is neither is Duckett.

I don't know if Portis is hurt more than we know right now, but the only thing that makes sense to me is that they want to lessen the risk and beating on Portis' shoulders by taking him out of short yardage situations.

Still not sure though that Duckett is enough of an upgrade to Betts in those situations to make it worth a trade at all, much less for what they gave up though.

Portis was suffering through reoccuring shoulder and stinger problems at the end of last year. He also had a shoulder injury to the other arm in high school that required surgery.

Let's not forget that Dat Nguyen had to retire from chronic shoulder and stinger problems. Shoulder injuries for high impact positions like runningback and linebacker are nothing to sneeze at.

Thanks Inman for the info. I wouldn't feel real good about that situation if I was a Skins' fan.

Man, if true they'll be lucky to land 3rd place in the division.

I still say relying on Duckett to be the guy until Portis gets back is a proposition I wouldn't want.

There are so many RBs I'd take over him it's not funny.

That's irrelevant. I'm sure there are "so many RBs" that Joe Gibbs would "take over him it's not funny" as well. Unfortunatly for Gibbs it's not just a matter of snapping his fingers and making it happen.

Plus, Duckett is a much better fit in his offense then he was in Atlanta's scheme.

thats great, i picked Portis in my FF draft with the 10th pick, and he had to go injury himself, i knew better than to pick a skin in the 1st round.

sounds like you need to pick a few more skins players!

Last year I picked Akers, Philly kicker, and he pulled a hammy!!!! Guess who I'm picking this year.... All NFCE players!;)

What happens to Portis cap hit, if he has to retire? Not saying he will, but was curious what happens to the cap when something like this were to happen?

LOL.... I'm picking McNabb with my first pick this year followed by Santana Moss! It's a toss up between Philly's "D" and the Skins "D".....
