not trying to gauge morality of a human's life, but 4 games is more than fair IMO since we already has missed 20, spent 180 days in jail and has the blessing of Brown's mother...

...and yeah, "bracing" is a funny word in this context...if the team is chewing their nails down to nubs over this, then there are some SERIOUS issues in the front office

4 games isn't even a slap on the wrist, I'm expecting a 1 year suspension but the way Jerry is acting, it may very well be 4-6 games...

If he gets 8 games, I don't see any, or too much of a contribution, he still needs time. 4 games or 6, it's very possible.
He only needs to get in "football" shape. Look at Spencer he hasn't played AND coming off an injury. The reason he will be on the active roster is so that he can actually practice, then be ready in 3 to 4 weeks if that is what it takes. If he's on PUP, he can't practice, then would take time for him to get in "football" shape.

It won't bother me one bit if he gets a year. Nor would I complain at 4 games. I just want to get it over with, so we can get the DL settled.

Jerry needs to cool his heels and realize he won't get word on Brent until Goodell gets around to it in his own sweet time. I really wouldn't be surprised if Commish Goodell is happily snickering to himself that he's finding a way to make Jerry squirm. After all, that's what happens to mavericks, isn't it? Jerry hasn't made any friends amongst the powers that be. It's what he does best.

Jones wants NFL to rule on Brent now

ARLINGTON, Texas – Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones anticipates that commissioner Roger Goodell will rule on defensive tackle Josh Brent’s reinstatement to the NFL before the Saturday afternoon’s deadline to cut rosters to 53 players.

“I’m thinking that it was in the next day or two, but we haven’t heard from it,” Jones said. “I’m just sure we’ll get some word here as we’re making this roster and we’re making these decisions about the status of players and certainly the players that are on the 53. So I would think just knowing that it’s roster-making time, we would hear something from the league on Josh Brent.”

The Cowboys will create a roster spot for Brent as soon as he’s ruled eligible by the NFL...

Is this Jerry actually trying to leverage the media? Did Goodell stop taking his calls?

You know, it really won't matter. This team is mediocre (as usual). There will be no playoffs and maybe, just maybe, Jason Garrett will be gone.

They are worth 3.2 billion. Jerry wanted Johnny Dopey for glitz and glamour. That is what matters.

This is the first time in a long time I am not looking at the season with excitement. The offseason is better. Draft Day 2015.

I think Brent should be able to come back to the team when Brown does... That's fair isn't it?

He killed someone . They can't possibly give him just a four game suspension? That's on par with failing a drug test, lol.

I think the WR that killed the pedestrian got a 1 year suspension. The difference is that he got probation and wouldn't have missed any games is not suspended. Josh Brent has already missed 20 games.

With the very long history of Jerry and receiving the prestigious Rules Committee appointment very early in his ownership, I doubt that he would just be cast aside.

And I don't believe in a lingering gossip column to the contrary...

I feel like he was already kind of suspended for 16 games since he missed all of last year. That in itself should keep the suspension down I hope. I hope 4 is the upper limit. Would like to see if he can help this team. If not, no biggee. Move on.

If he killed his wife that would apparently be 6 games....

The league has mandated rules and Brent's already been out of football for a lengthy period plus completed a jail sentence.
This is hardly Ray Rice beating down his wife and getting 2 games plus some bad press.

From Brents perspective he should have forced a suspension earlier. Even Cowboy fans thinks it would only be 4 games when in reality it will be 24.

He missed games because he quit football to concentrate on the legal issues, then, because he was in jail. He didn't miss any games due to a suspension yet.

Why should he get credit for that?

That wasn't a penalty imposed on him by the NFL.

The argument is that for his crime he has already missed twenty games. There are only 10 or so years at best that his athletic window is open.

I think that you need to to think on what you think the point of punishing someone is. If you are just doing it for the sake of doing it then I don't get that. There are also the traditions in the US of cruel and unusual punishment and double jeopardy.

Friend killer spent 4.5 months in jail and 1.5 months in inpatient rehab. Do you think that an NFL suspension will help him to rehabilitate any better than what he already has received?

The suspension from the NFL would not be for "killing someone" but for violating the personal conduct policy. He drove drunk and therefore has to serve a suspension for it.

He would have served a suspension regardless.

No, and the leagues only cards to play, is appearance to the league...

I'm not sure how many posters here have heard Brent speak, in conversation etc.

He's really well spoken, not a knucklehead, smart guy. ....

I have said before ... that is nice for the NFL to provide a "ride home" if you are drunk ... But the players with $100,000 cars in a bad part of town don't want to leave their cars there. .. want to drive them home themselves if they can ..

Rule should be:

1) NFL provides ride home if you are drunk (as it is now)
2) (My own NFL rule): NFL provides flat-bed tow truck to take your Mercedes etc. home ... (are all tows now on a flat bed? I'm getting old).

If this had been the case, Josh Brent wouldn't have driven that night. .. The team bus left the following morning 8 or 9 a.m. to the airport for the Packers game. .. Would you have wanted to leave your $100K car on a lot with hundreds of cars passing every hour for 2-3 days in a bad part of Dallas, to get picked apart for a few days until you got back from the Packers game, and then had to get a cab from the airport or Val Ranch over to that club etc. ? ...

No doubt Josh's car would have got some kind of theft ..

Of course Josh should have taken this into account, but ..
