When you let people outside the organization make the calls on who you draft I would consider that poor management.

It is the Texans we are talking about. The same franchise that hired Charlie Casserly. Never said they were smart. BUT...if they do take Vince they WILL sell out this year...If they take Bush and continue to lose Reliant will be a ghost town. Houston fans are very, very fickle...they need something gimmicky just so tey will show up. The Astros have been one of the best baseball franchises, W-L, in the past decade and when they lose 3 in a row the attendance drops 15K (unless Roy O or Backe - hometown product, are starting)

Living in Houston I know what you mean and as long as Houston owners are bowing down to outside pressure instead of going by what your scouting department is saying or the coach wants then chances are your not going to be very successful.

I live in the Houston area...sports radio down here is going another direction. It seems that McNair is getting threats by financial sponsors: Take Vince Young or else. The Houston financial powers want the hometown kid and are using their financial leverage to try and get management to take VY.

I hope they do.

I wish nothing but ill will on that franchise and taking Vince Young at the top fo the draft would be a good thing to seeing that team go further into the mire.

With as lousy an O line as they have- and its not like they did all that much during FA to beef it up- taking anyone but the Brick is STUPID. Sure Bush is flashy and might be the next Gale Sayers- but did Sayers ever make it to the playoffs-NO- because the Bears were HORRIBLE. Just where the Texans are now. they have decided to keep Carr- now they should decide to BUILD AN O LINE. AND you start with the LT.

I get tired of people ragging on that o-line...they had more 100 yd rushing performances than over half the league...David Carr MAKES that line look bad.

They'll take Bush, Vince will go to the Titans and terrorize them for years. Poetic justice.

They cut one offensive tackle, let an offensive guard leave in free agency and got a new center.

Yes, they were very good and Carr made them look awful.

You are right. There is also a big difference between their run blocking skills and their pass blocking skills. Ok at the former and not so good at the latter.

Carr is a LOT more mobile then Bledsoe- but he got sacked more often.Do the math. And Carr is not known for holding onto the ball forever either.

If Houston were to dangle the overall #1 take a look at what it would take to get it.

http://dallascowboyszone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52634

Let's consider the Jets as our test case.

#1 is worth 3000 points per that Draft Value Chart.

The Jets have picks 4, 29, 35, 71, 97, 103, 138, 173, 211, & 217 currently.

Pick 4 is worth 1800 points.

Pick 29 is worth 640 points. Added to 1800 that is 2440 points.

Pick 35 is worth 550 points. Added to the previous 2 picks that is 2990 points.

To get Reggie Bush if the Jets wanted him they'd have to give up 3 picks for 1 and may have to throw in #211, worth 7 points, to get it even closer.

If I am the Texans I do this so fast heads would swim.

They would have the following picks Day 1 only...4, 29, 33, 35, 65, & 66. That's 6 picks on Day 1 and the first pick on Day 2, number 98.

With those picks they could fix the OL, add some D, maybe a weapon or 2 for Carr.

Is Reggie Bush worth passing up all of that?

Imagine for 1 minute this scenario.

AJ Hawk @ #4.
Eric Winston @ 29.
Nick Mangold @ 33.
Max Jean-Gilles @ 35.
Rodrique Wright @ 65.
Marcedes Lewis @ 66.

Plus 5 more picks to play with.

Just food for thought.

I agree, Texans need help throught out their team not just the O-line and while I think Reggie Bush will turn out to be a very good player I think if the Texans will trade the overall #1 they have a better chance of getting that team on track.

Here's what I hope happens to the Texans:

they completely blow the pick and Casserly is fired.

they have another 2-14 season.

Texan fans HATE the Cowboys. I wish them nothing but ill will.

IMO, no. No player is. Yet you know as well as I do that team will cast a line to see if there's a nibble or a strike.
