You mean like Mike Shanahan, John Gruden, Norv Turner and Lane Kiffin?

It's actually where coaches go to get sympathy. :p: But didn't really work for Cable.

Money and the hope that if he somehow made it work there he could get a HC with any team is the only thing I can figure.

As Chief said...desperation that will probably go down in flames but has that lottery ticket chance of a big pay off.

Someone is eventually going to get lucky. They will get a fairly awful job with tons of high draft picks and Al Davis will eventually be out of the picture because of his health.

Once he is gone that's no longer an awful gig.

Could build something nice there quickly without Davis as GM/Overseer.

If Garrett truely got an Ivy League education, that would likely make him smart enough to stay away from the Raidahs. That is like being sent to Siberia.

Where did you hear this? Gotta link?
It is just a rumor at this stage. Florio has been talking immiment, no wait not imminent for over a week. Fassel has come out and denied the SF newspaper saying he has interviewed but did acknowledge he sent a letter of consideration last year.

As for Garrett, I do not think he would take it even if offered.

Whomever takes that team over if Cable is fired will have to accept the reason why he was fired in the first place: Jamarcus Russell. I doubt Garrett could handle the player or the environment nor would he want to. Davis is also notoriously cheap, he is stuck in the same rut that Jones was in approximately ten years ago where he wanted to have head coaches willing to take coordinator salaries. Garrett could just say in Dallas with his three million per, he probably would not get more in Oakland.

As meddling as Jerry Jones is, he at least would not fire a head coach if he refused to work with a waste like Russell. I admire Cable to standing up for what he believes in, even if it costs him his job.

I guess the Raiders have been interviewing behind the guys back. Fassell, Trestman and Hue Jackson have been the guys targeted. Wouldn't be surprised if Al Davis inquires with his buddy Jerrah about the redhead. This board might get it's wish.

He can inquire all he wants, Garrett would never go there.

What's funny is Fassel has been openly begging and pleading for this job for over a couple of years.

The picture of desperation.

Wouldn't Fassell prefer an NFL Head Coaching job?

I honestly think he is gonna hire Mike Leach.

That would be a very interesting hire. Imagine Leach with a real QB.

Walking Dead Man wants a coach that will keep playing the Oversized Turd. Kind of hard to find anyone respectable that will.

Cable getting fired is the worst kept secret in the NFL. People knew that this would happen 3 weeks into the 2009 season.

I talked to Tom Flores about this a couple of weeks ago. He shook his head when I asked him about Cable. He wants the Raiders to retain Cable because the players reacted in a positive manner with this guy as coach.

Anybody got a resume they'd like to submit to Al? His suite is about 200 yards from my office.

What about getting Cable as our Oline coach when this thing goes down? Isn't the rumor Houck is retiring? Hopefully!

I have not heard any rumor that Houck is quitting.

I cannot say I would be upset if he did.

If Houck got canned I'd hope JJ would pursue Jim Michalczik. The guy has a great record of coaching up oline. He did an awesome job when he was at Cal.

I think there was some rumor going around about him possibly retiring but never seen a link on it so I don't know if it was fan speculation or something more.

Funny thing about the Houck thing now is many were complaining before he left that he needed to go. When he was gone people were wanting back and now that he is here they want him gone again.

Shut your dirty mouth.

He has those grandpa glasses with the pimp chains holding them on while wearing his 80's jogging suits.

He will wear you out and bust a geritol in your dome.

Anyone else wonder that if he didn't hit women, he might still be there?

That's probably how he got the head coach position. Remember this is Los Angryles, CA not Humptulips, Washington.
