Why draft Lawson if we sign Akin? I thought Akin was going to the LOLB opposite Ware on the ROLB. Lawson also projects to an OLB. Seems like overkill.
Probably a trade down, or take the BPA on the board. I personally would like a trade down if we pick up Coleman and Ayodele.

OK how many people in Houston know just what the brass in Dallas are going to do, let alone who they want to draft?

I seriously hope someone signs Williams before he gets here.

I've been wondering about Ayodele being better suited for an inside role too. I guess he has to get signed first though, doesn't he?

I have a feeling that If Lawson were drafted, Ayodele would play on the inside of the LB core manning the run stop duties and Lawson would be the pass rushing LB on the left side. Even if Ayodele started on the outside, I don't think it should preclude us from drafting Lawson. If we play this whole thing out right, we can use the FA period to address need and use the draft to take the best available player regardless of position. It seems that the Cowboys may think Lawson will be that guy if he falls to us. Another guy that Cowboys fams should keep an eye on as far as a sleeper WR that can be had in the later rounds is the kid from the University of Wyoming (Boughknight (sp?)). I'm from Wyoming and I keep in touch with some friends from there. Appearantly he's pretty hot news locally, right now and one of the teams that keeps being associated with his name is Dallas.

Peace,
SS

I'm all for the best player available theory but if we stay at 18, from the mock drafts I've seen, Lawson wouldn't be the best available if Holmes and Jackson are on the Board. He may not be considered a better value than Wimbley from FSU. We'll see I guess.

Despite my despair due to our slow start in F/A, if we get AA at OLB, Coleman at FS (not gonna be a game changer but decent for a year), Mike Williams at RT (been saying this since the day he got cut) and Vinitieri (check spelling) at PK, I would be pleased with this free agency period. We would then be free to draft the BPA when the draft rolls around and we wouldn't be drafting for need necessarily.

So we are looking at a potential offseason of:

Ayodele
Vinatieri
TO (ugh...)
Mike Williams
Marcus Coleman
Sowell
Manny Lawson

Maybe that would shut all the chicken Littles up?

I'm still not sold on Ayodele as a long term starter. He might just be Fujita's replacement.

have u seen him play?

A few times. I agree with the general assessment that he is a much better fit for the 3-4.

However, Fujita was supposed to be as well.

I'm always leery of a guy whose former coaching staff wasn't too concerned to see leave and who didn't start all his team's games.

I can understand that sentiment, but Ayodele is a much more physical player than Fujita ever was and he is also going to get the benefit of a full offseason of conditioning, meetings and practice with the Dallas coaching staff which Fujita never did.

The man is a tackle machine which everyone ignores as well as his FF and point to his sack totals. The guy played OLB in Del Rio's 4-3 scheme. How many sacks did Dexter Coakley, Ken Norton, Darrin Smith et al of the Cowboys 4-3 days get? All of those were superb LBers and for them to get 4 sacks in a year was absolutly top end.

I just dont think the guy was asked to blitz much and thus the sack totals BUT he did make a ton of tackles and forced fumbles which is exactly what you want form your 4-3 OLB.

Point is that he and Peterson were the best options at OLB and I prefer him seeing Peterson is a walking mash unit.
