I think this was an option to help the offense/Dak until Gallup returns but Jerry's statement this week about skill players picking up the slack for Tyron's injury makes me wonder if we are about to see a heavy-dose run game. In other words, we may see them DeMarco Murray Zeke ( lead the league in rushing attempts, yards, and touches). Basically, run the hell out of him knowing he may not return next season. Lots pros though.......
  • takes some pressure off OLine, especially one with three missing starters ( Tyron, Connor and Collins) from last season.
  • takes some pressure off Tyler
  • ask for more pass protection from Zeke
  • see more play action from Dak
  • control TOP
  • minimize the risk of turnovers

May also explain their refusal to bring in outside help.

“He has to be the focal point,” Jones said of Elliott, via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “There is room for (Tony) Pollard while Zeke is in there.”

Not only that, but Jones seems to think that football in 2022 works the same way it did in 1992, when the Cowboys won their first Super Bowl during his ownership tenure. That's evidenced by his thoughts on running back Ezekiel Elliott and his centrality to the team's success.

"He's [Elliott] in the best shape he's ever been in," Jones said. "Now, it is still a fact: We go as Zeke goes. I know it's a lot on Dak [Prescott]'s shoulders, but we go as Zeke goes. He's very capable of being everything we've ever wanted him to be. The wild card, though, is the guy that's playing beside him: [Tony] Pollard. And so, we put Pollard in some plans, that with Zeke, for the defenses to have to work against mid-week and be ready to play. Then, you've got Pollard. I really like where we are at running back. But it all starts and stops with Zeke."

That was during the demarco days and the first 3 years of Zeke……not happening now and the passing game will not scare a single defensive coordinator

There's two ways to look at it:

1. Smith was a LT in college. You would assume given that, as well as his measurables that he was drafted as the future LT for the Cowboys. So, put him in there and let him learn. Same as Tyron Smith he'll probably struggle a bit (at least) but long term he would hopefully mature into another Tyron Smith there. Take your lumps now and build for the future.

2. While he was a LT in college, he has limited experience there. Put him in now, having him go against top DEs game after game and he can develop bad habits trying to survive, or lose confidence (seems like he has a good head on his shoulders, but you don't really know if he can handle getting beaten on a regular basis) which he might never get back. So let him play some but not start, give him some game experience before you make him the starter.

Either scenario has risks, either to the kid himself or the team (Dak specifically).

No cut and dried answer....

Exactly why if he's your starting LT, you have to help him. That includes everyone, Zeke, Dak, TE's, Kellen Moore

This is nothing new. Dak is at his best when he has a running to lean on, which opens up his play action passes. This team won't win slinging the ball around 40-50 times a game.

Most ppl knew this team needed to shift to running the ball and playing good defense.

Also, please don't get into Michael Gallup being the savior of the passing attack. MG is a solid player, but he hasn't reached WR1 status yet.

Yes, I think you'd find out pretty quickly where his biggest strengths and weaknesses are, help him on the weak areas and run plays that utilize his strengths.

What's stopping you all from just flat out saying "I don't think Dak is very good" instead of dancing around it so much?

Not sure they have a choice, they are clearly going to have to protect their LT, the best way to do that is to force opponents to respect the run. Just not sure they have the talent to do so.

We'll be seeing a bunch of run plays to the right of the line.

Seriously.

You're saying it without actually saying it.

Just say it. It's okay to be honest about things even if we are biased as fans.

Anyone that thinks were going to be successful featuring the slow and predictable Zeke is delusional. They obviously havent been watching the last few years.
