Because it's the LT in question not Dak. Why are you dancing around that?
All of you are begging for a run first offense.

You know who else really wants a un first offense? The Dak doubters like myself.

If you're desperate for a run first offense then you don't believe in him just like we do.

No, I believe in a traditional run-based attack. It's basic football Doesn't have anything to do with hating the quarterback actually its opposite, Dak thrives in that environment, as do most, and he minimizes mistakes which most cannot say. It's a team game and I don't expect my QB to be a hero and do it all himself like you do.

I hope for a run first offense regardless of circumstance.
Preseason has shown the current depth players on the OL to be better at run blocking than pass protection and a couple of the backup RBs have actually looked decent.

I would prefer a Shanahan approach with his RB by committee system or how Payton used Ingram and Kamara a few years back.

But that's where my concern is somewhat skeptical of Moore and McCheese.
I'm not confident in either of them to gameplan a consistently effective run first offense.

Can it be done? Absolutely. Anything close to resembling last year's run based successful offense of the first 7 games is what I want.

The remaining questions are are they able to re establish that same style and even further...
Will they stay committed to it.

I don't know about run-first but it should be about clock control. Short passes mostly, as much as I don't wanna say that. Add to the idea that the Tight Ends might be better than the available WRs. I expect to see a lot of two-TE sets, at least until Gallup gets back.

At least one reverse and a jet sweep every game. It would help if Dak takes off when there's nothing there after the first two reads, given that this o line will have some problems.

i thought when they moved off cooooooop....that it was a hint of trying to become more of a balanced or run heavy offense.
thats what sucks moving tyler outside...im not sure mcgovern is as powerful inside as tyler.
but things change fast in this league.

You’re not going to win consistently in the NFL these days with a run first offense. This is a passing league and to win football games you have to score a lot of points and be very productive. Running the ball more than you pass usually keeps your score down. You’re not able to create as many big plays. Good luck winning a lot of games being a run first offense behind our current OL. Once you start getting behind you have to start throwing the ball. With the QBs we’re going to be facing this season we’re going to have to throw the ball a lot.

Not sure they have a choice, they are clearly going to have to protect their LT, the best way to do that is to force opponents to respect the run. Just not sure they have the talent to do so.

Well, that's one place where Zeke has value - he can get a few yards when there's little or no hole to run through, teams still have to account for him. And (I know, some here will disagree) he can still break long runs, maybe not take it to the house from their own 35-yard line but a 20–30-yard run is still very, very valuable...

I like the run to set up the pass and obviously KM needs to break things up and not run on a specific down or distance . Elliott has some juice left if the lanes are open . Mix in a healthy dose of Pollard and Malik Davis . Have tired D’s trying to chase fresh running backs .

Tyron Smith had 7 penalties and gave up 8 sks as a rookie playing RT in 2011
In 2012 he switched to LT and had 11 penalties and gave up 3 sks

That’s good research thanks . You forget some of the bumps along the way players have . I’m not as down on Ball as the entire board seems to be . All things equal if they don’t trust Ball would rather move a veteran like Zack Martin take over at Tackle and leave Tyler Smith on the interior mauling opening up some running lanes .

Agreed.

One thing I'd love to see is a return to the early 90's days with a constant rotation of d-line players. If you're not flush with talent (there is some, not across the board) the next best thing is keeping fresh bodies attacking the offense all game long...

I think this was an option to help the offense/Dak until Gallup returns but Jerry's statement this week about skill players picking up the slack for Tyron's injury makes me wonder if we are about to see a heavy-dose run game. In other words, we may see them DeMarco Murray Zeke ( lead the league in rushing attempts, yards, and touches). Basically, run the hell out of him knowing he may not return next season. Lots pros though.......
  • takes some pressure off OLine, especially one with three missing starters ( Tyron, Connor and Collins) from last season.
  • takes some pressure off Tyler
  • ask for more pass protection from Zeke
  • see more play action from Dak
  • control TOP
  • minimize the risk of turnovers

May also explain their refusal to bring in outside help.

“He has to be the focal point,” Jones said of Elliott, via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “There is room for (Tony) Pollard while Zeke is in there.”

Not only that, but Jones seems to think that football in 2022 works the same way it did in 1992, when the Cowboys won their first Super Bowl during his ownership tenure. That's evidenced by his thoughts on running back Ezekiel Elliott and his centrality to the team's success.

"He's [Elliott] in the best shape he's ever been in," Jones said. "Now, it is still a fact: We go as Zeke goes. I know it's a lot on Dak [Prescott]'s shoulders, but we go as Zeke goes. He's very capable of being everything we've ever wanted him to be. The wild card, though, is the guy that's playing beside him: [Tony] Pollard. And so, we put Pollard in some plans, that with Zeke, for the defenses to have to work against mid-week and be ready to play. Then, you've got Pollard. I really like where we are at running back. But it all starts and stops with Zeke."

Yep Dak is going to be running for his life first if we don't address LT in a serious way.

Zeke should have nuhtin to do with opposing DLs .. just LBs and safeties,... and he was already doing that .
and asking him to take on more and more blitzes alone ..is also asking him to take even more pounding on his already toll wearing body.

Instead of asking zeke to chip DEs' , why not a 2 TE .. 12 personnel packages ..and a variation of Jumbo packages as they once did with Looney
due to TE shortages

Anyone that thinks were going to be successful featuring the slow and predictable Zeke is delusional. They obviously havent been watching the last few years.

Plus this OL doesn't give me the warm fuzzies when it comes to being disciplined and penalty free. I fear we will see a lot of
2nd and 20, 3rd and 15 which will force this offense to open up and get out of the run oriented game plan. You need a powerful and disciplined OL to pound it, whether its Zeke, Pollard or Davis.

We need to run on teams we can run on and pass on the teams we need to pass on....JG says stuff like "We run the ball thats what we do"....got news for you guys..with a healthy OL last year we werent going to run over the TB DL..KM needs to shceme his offense to use our strengths and exspose thier weaknes. Might need to use short passing game to move the chains, give the defense a chance to shine...but GOD PLEASE DO NOT "Do what we do"!!!!

Running the ball against Tampa is a great plan…..
Running the ball vs that D line with our O line.
No way!!!!!!!!!!!!! There strength is their run D.
We are going to have to mix up the run and the pass.

Yeah, let’s run right into the strength of their D! That would be so STUPID and something Garrett would do. Moore has seen the film and experienced their Defense 1st hand. I doubt Moore will just try to pound the ball into their D.
