Run game and Run defense

Ok, I see the usual posters out there thinking this year is gonna be different. They're also same ones who say Dallas had an early playoff exit because of lack of run game and run defense.

My question is what did we do to improve the run game? Zeke averaged 3.5 ypc last season, Tyron Smith was second team all pro, I doubt Guyton matches that. Beebes we all hope to be an upgrade, but still a position he has never played.

Run defense, Dlaw is our only proven run stopper. Mazi, Kneeland, Williams are just a situation where we cross our fingers and hope they work out.
Parsons is our best linebacker, Kendricks is on a one year deal. Overshown , Clark, and Liufau are another hope and prayer situation.

So again, how did we improve those weaknesses that y'all say was the reason for the early playoff exit?

Defensively you're really counting on a new scheme and hopefully a healthier unit to fix the run defense. Offensively I'm really struggling to see why we should be expecting better results running the football. The good news about Zeke is he should be a better player around the goal line than Pollard was a year ago. Outside of that I've got nothing. I'm a fan of the Oline draft, but to expect these guys to step right in and replace Tyron and Biadasz seems like a stretch to me. You really need someone down the depth chart to step up or else this team is really one dimensional in the run game as a between the tackle power run attack. If not they're really going to have to get creative in running the football.

So far Beebe is a big upgrade and Steele will be another year from his ACL. Schoon will be improved. Hopefully Big Mike will get a much better run scheme than last year. Since the season opener is still 4 months away, there could be more improvements coming.

The big thing is the running game scheme. It was just awful last year.

What has Beebe done to say he's a big upgrade? He has way more potential than Biadiaz, but potential doesn't mean he's actually better.

There's not a scheme in the world that's gonna help Zeke

I would have liked to try and get a new OL coach and change the scheme up. Same coach, same scheme, does not equate to a better run game. I do have some hope that our run defense will show improvement due to Zimmers philosphy

This is my biggest concern. I'm not sure how you improve the running game scheme with Zeke leading in carries even if it is a by committee situation. Decent back, but is limited with what he can do at this point. If anything I think they found a runner who better fits what they tried to do a year ago and are doubling down on that. My hope is they are still looking to add another back before week 1.

Oh you finally have something realistic to say. Yes, the crap OL coach is still here and it’s a massive problem.

Our run game and our run defense are our two biggest concerns.

I think that's best answered by what our philosophy/approach is going to be. Thats on McCarthy. We won't really be able to determine this until it's put in play. When it's 1st and goal at the 3 , do we line up 3 wrs in shotgun? 3rd and short 3-4yds do we try to get tricky? Does the committee of RB's get more than 15 combined carries per game while Dak passing 40 times? Will we use Loepke at all?

I do think Beebe will be an upgrade C. Guyton is a toss up but we've got tyler as a fallback. Brevyn Spann-Ford will be better in the run game than Schoonmaker as well.

On Defense I think having real linebackers and not hybrid safeties is an upgrade. The DT's are still meh but the LB's should help that if their not looking to defend the pass all of the time.

How has zeke made our run game better?

Again, with Mazi we are just hoping it works out. Nothing you say is based on anything factual, just hope

Yep, that is all we as fans have. And not just about Mazi.

I was being facetious about Zeke. We still need a #1 RB.

So if we dont get a number one back. How do you see this season being any different than the others?

You just have to stop with all the facts. Jerry has got this.

I don't. Not on offense unless the OL surprises us and become another version of The Great Wall.

Defense, we don't know either, as we need to see how the players respond to Zimmer, his coaching style and schemes.

Only thing we know that is the same and should still be good, is the 3 on ST's, in Punting, Kicking, Long Snapping.

My thing with Zimmer is he hasn't coached sinced 2021, and he's on a one year deal. This is not a recipe for success

I think the scheme improves run defense. I think Kendrick helps. He’s older but he coming off a real solid year. He’s also smart and can help teach the other LB. No way not to be concerned about DT but it’s also not hard to improve what we had

If Mazi cant take that jump, then we're in huge trouble
