Run On OL

I still think RT is the worst position on our team. The starter is bad, and there is no depth at either T spot. The guards had a bad year last year, but they were new and dinged...they may improve, and the depth there isn't as bad as RT.

I also think we have more players on our roster who can line up at DT, whether it's anchor or penetrator, than we do true DEs who can pressure the QB.

Won't surprise me if our priorities are (not by round)

1. DE and RT

2. DT and G/C

3. CB/S

4. RB

5. TE

But there are 3 RTs available in free agency after the draft that would improve that spot dramatically. There aren't any free agent S, DT, DE, LB, or WR that could have that impact. I'd rather go get one of the FAs and add an impact player in the draft at another spot.

I don't disagree with you at all. If I had a bet to make, I would bet on us taking a DE or DT in round one, depending on how the draft falls.

However, if I were looking at OL in round one, I value Fluker over the OGs.

17 picks before us.
3 LT prospects, 1 RT prospect, 2 OG prospects.

For those six to go before us, that means over 35% of picks will be used on OL.

Hard for me to imagine no matter how players are rated overall...QB, RB, WR, TE, DT, DE, LB, CB, S......but we think 35% of picks through first 17 will go to OL, including 3 picks on OG and RT?

I think folks will be pleasantly surprised to see two of these guys there for the Cowboys; I think fans will be shocked when Cowboys go in another direction or even trade down unless Fluker is there. I can see us going RT at 18 because we totally stink there, but I really believe we will find a guard to compete and groom later. I don't see the team giving up on last season's free agents and Kowalski after one year of transition and injuries, even though we may hope so.

It is proven every year that other than LT teams can be sure to do two things:

1. After the super blue chippers, usually 5-7 players, teams become very unpredictable and look for impact guys who score TDs or improve defense.

2. Teams do not value RTs or OGs or Cs until later in round one when they start viewing their picks like their 2nd rounders.

It won't surprise me to see a RT or OG there at 18, but it also won't surprise me to see Dallas wait for other rounds to address the OL.

After going through the teams and their needs, I can see those six OL prospects going before we pick.

I also think the "value" of players in the draft has changed some now that there is a rookie pay scale. Previously you didn't want to use a top pick on an RT or OG because you had to compensate them well for being drafted high. Now, it's cheaper to use your top-10 pick on an interior lineman than pay for a high-quality one in free agency.

Considering how absolutely horrible this team has been at getting O line talent after the second round, I worry that they continue to think they can get talent there later despite the overwhelming evidence that they cannot recognize it down there.

We're not going to have a shot at the three LT's. It's looking more likely that Cooper and Fluker may not be available either because of their ability to play multiple positions. I think the most likely candidate to fall to 18 is Warmack because he is a OG only.

The only way Warmack could fall to Dallas is if he got caught with bag of coke the night before the draft. He is best overall player in this draft.

Why not none of the 90's OL was a 1st rd pick Not Eric Williams, or Larry Allen not one of them were but they were top talent, there is quality and that is what it is all about not what round that is why it does matter how deep this draft is along the OL.

If a top OL is sitting there at 18 grab him but you don't reach for a player no matter what position he plays. Passing up top talent at another position because you panic on OL is dumb. There are some very good players who will be there in the 2nd and 3rd who have top potential

I don't believe in reaching, but there is not that much starting talent in the second and third rounds. Pugh and Long are both projects that need a year or two of strength training. Warford is the only guard that I would think that has a chance of starting snd he may be gone in the second. The second tier tackles will go early in the second. Last year's draft was deeper. Dallas could walk away without a decent lineman. This draft is just not what it is cracked up to be for linemen. There are several top-end and then it drops to projects that will take a year or two. Do they really need some more Arkins on the roster?
