Running Dak

I felt like there were near double digit designed run plays for Dak against NYG. Then today in a game where nothing was working and Dallas badly needed to jumpstart the offense Dak was back in bubble wrap (2 official rushes I think with one being a give up). In fact at least one zone read where he gave it to Zeke (only to get stuffed), Dak could have ran it forever. Honestly, what are we protecting? Run the guy. Run him a crap ton if you have to. He’s worthless if you don’t use his legs.

A lot of them in the Giants game was when they were run-blitzing Zeke and trying to make something happen. Dallas was in the lead the whole way and it’s a lot easier to hold it in that context.

I knew we were in trouble after our initial 3rd down........................They had an RPO called and instead of keeping the ball , Dak handed off and Zeke was stuffed.........If you review that play , there were only 2 Seattle defenders to Prescott's right and 2 or even 3 Cowboys to block................That play alone could have changed the entire game.............

I disagree. It’s clear that Dak running was part of the game plan going into the NYG game. It was a reaction to the criticism of the lack of imagination in the Carolina game. Running Dak was not a byproduct of controlling the game against the Giants, it was one of the causes.

Dak is off for 20 yards on that play at least. Yes.

Yeah, I think the game is "speeding up" for Dak instead of "slowing down".

His inability in the pass game is effecting his overall decision making......................
I was reading something this morning from a guy that reviews the “all 22” film. He made the point that even when Dak makes a good read, he almost never makes “the right read”. Meaning, when he has time and completes a pass, there’s usually a better completion that he didn’t see.

Dak got 19 of his 45 yards rushing in the last drive in the fourth, on three carries because the Giants were run blitzing. He rushed a total of seven times.

32 of his yards came on two runs in the first and one of them was 13 yards and they didn’t even pass midfield on that drive in the first. And he also had one for 0 yards on that same drive.

His last ‘run’ was when he downed it at the end of the game for -1 yards.

Nobody is asking Dak to rush for 150 yards. It’s about timing, unpredictability, and keeping drives alive. It was clearly part of a game plan last week and this week it was an afterthought. I’m not even sure how you could watch the two games and not come to this simple conclusion. Running Dak last week helped loosen things up. This game today badly needed more of that and yet Dallas used it 75% less than they did the week before.

It loosened things up on a scripted drive and the final drive, when the Giants were runblitzing. Outside of that, this offense wasn’t moving the ball effectively at all. When your down by 20, having your QB run that much is not that effective.

Running QBs don’t succeed in the league for a reason, unless they can throw.

You can dance around it all you want but there’s no explanation for Dak running it officially 5 less times this week vs last. It worked last week for an anemic offense that might have needed it 10-12 times today instead of 7. No one is saying wait until you’re down 20 to try it. Use it more out of the gate. If you’re advocating waiting until you’re down three scores to run more designed runs with the QB then yeah I don’t think that helps.

I’m saying your impression that it totally opened the offense is exaggerated. How about Dak hit some WRs downfield?

Every game is different. You have to work with what you have. It’s a weapon that was totally ignored when the game was competitive. It was big for momentum last week. It could have helped with momentum this week as well.

I guess the bottom line is this, when the offense is this anemic are you ok with Dak rushing it twice? With I think one of those coming when the game was essentially decided. So in essence are you ok with not using Dak as a runner at all when the offense is sputtering this bad right from the start?

When fans want our QB to run, you know we've hit rock bottom.

This!!! Linehan needs to call more quick game passes. 50 and 60 drops, he keeps going to deep 70 drops with 3-4 read progressions. Dak just can't do that with this line and these receivers. I'm very disappointed in his regression. He was very promising. Don't know if it can be salvaged .

Running Dak will likely be more effective than Dak in pocket but I seriously question his sustainability and giving contract to that type of QB would be extremely risky.

Isn't Dak a QB ? Aren't they primarily suppose to pass the ball? We already have a Star HB. How about we get a QB who can Pass the ball and forget these goofy run Dak RPO dreams of production.....

It’s a band-aid for sure. But unfortunately Dak is not a pocket passer. If you’re putting him under center you have to use his mobility in some situations to truly get your money’s worth. And he’s all we have. Rush and White are not feasible options. So you’ve got to go with Dak and get the most out of him that you can.
