Running game importance

Luckily this is probably the deepest RB class ever. Quality backs will be going in rounds 6-7.

I don't care where the player gets drafted. I don't care about draft order, just that we get a stud back. McFadden is better than Morris and better than people here think he is, but in my opinion, thats probably still not good enough.

Getting another Zeke or David Johnson is not probable where we draft, but you want to get a guy that can be THE MAN if Zeke gets injured. It is that critical.

Yep the Jackson loss seemed extremely short sighted and flat out stupid considering we'll likely let Dunbar walk because he's not that good.
Says who?

I think Dunbar is a RKG for life until we finally let him leave.

As much as we bend over backwards for a marginal talent, the die is cast.

We might even get more rhetoric from the team about how he is such a mismatch player and how he is so explosive.

He is a lot like others like Ogletree and Costa that for some bizarre reason got untouchable status.

I don't see that much benefit from keeping Dunbar on the roster. He reminds me of Escobar in that he is too "valuable" to let go, but he does nothing when he actually gets to play. Seriously, why have a player on the roster if you refuse to play him, or he can't get the job done?

Oh no.

He is nothing like Escobar. He is worse.

He gets more snaps and is just as ineffective.

The way we have acted the last few years with him, his brief pop in early 2015 make him the second coming of Reggie Bush.

You know, the good one from the Saints.

Dunbar's got to be done in Dallas. I see what the staff saw in him to begin with (let's remember he was RB3 and a guy that played inside, outside, ran all the WR routes and gave you something on special teams as a backup returner). But he didn't come all the way back from injury this year. He looked very expendable. Would have been better to have kept Jackson in his place, honestly.

You and I haven't had the same opinion lately, but we definitely agree on this point.

Not having an acceptable substitute if Zeke gets hurt badly is a piss poor game plan.
Sign a vet if you want a acceptable sibstitute (which DMC is) but you don't spend a top 100 pick for a backup the year after getting Zeke. Especially with the Cowboys defensive needs.

I don't think we would have been behind as much as we were if we had run Zeke more.
Maybe, but in general it shows that once they are behind that the running game can't carry them.

You could probably make the argument that if Atlanta had run on every play from the last few minutes of 3rd quarter through the entire fourth quarter that they would have ended the game sooner....

Leaving the patriots not enough time to complete the comeback to tie it.

Maybe pats don't go for field goal and score ends up at worst 28-25
Pats 9+8+8=25

Dunbar averaged 8 snaps per game in 2016.

Escobar averaged 10.

Dunbar was a udfa with a low salary.

Escobar was a 2nd round pick.

I don't get the hate for Dunbar. They did not use draft resources on him and only minimal cap space.

If he didn't get snaps they probably would have gone to Morris. The problem was that Morris was not a good blocker or receiver and didn't play special teams other than a couple of snaps in one game.

That's true if they fall far enough behind but I don't see how that relates to the original post.

I know I am in the minority here, but we either need to add a veteran, or a draft pick. Since this is a very good draft I would consider using a top 3 round pick on a RB if the value lined up. It is that important.

I've disagreed with you in every single thread you've posted.

This is no exception.

No.

People keep saying this but the other team scored on 3 straight possessions.

Your solution?

Somehow you think using a premium resource on a backup RB is the answer.

Yikes.

Re-sign McFadden.

Draft a RB in the 4th round.
No.

Grab a cheap guy in free agency. I mean McFadden was a free agent. RBs are a dime a dozen.

Why are people so willing to throw away resources on one of the least important positions in the game?

This is infuriating.

If I had to make a list power ranking the areas of concern for this team... the running game would be dead last. We have the best O-line and the best RB in the game. Not a concern. Let's not even pretend to worry about it. Of course injuries will ruin anything for anyone. Guess what... the Packers are really screwed if Aaron Rodgers goes down. But I don't think QB is a position of need for them exactly.
