Rust, Pride, Toilet Paper, and Buzzsaws

Last night was a display of the current state of the team. Why did we lose? Here is a quick breakdown:

Rust: These were the first snaps for the starters in meaningful football in months, and it showed. They were sluggish and hesitant at points, and the decision making was erratic. This will improve over time IMO.

Pride: They ate the cheese and assumed all was fixed and that they were ready to feast on a weak opponent based on years of dominance. They assumed wrong.

Toilet Paper: They were as soft as wet TP out there. They were out hustled and the Giants simply took their lunch money. Lots of work in this dept. Not sure if Schotty has the skillset to fix this.

Buzzsaws: The Giants viewed this game as their collective “statement” game. National TV. 25th anniversary of 9/11 for NYC— new coach, ecstatic fans, and a hated rival. They wanted to prove that they should be taken seriously and accomplished that. We walked right into their buzzsaw in week one— I think it will be a different result when we see them again.

Flush week one down the drain, get back to work, and just win week 2

It’s a very long season. Every single team we play will be tough.

The fans here must understand you don’t fix an historically bad defense in one draft and a training camp. Christian Parker is a 34 year old rookie who is learning.

This was never going to be an instant fix.

Rust - It's how the NFL operates these days. Most NFL teams do not play starters in the preseason any more and do just fine in week 1
Pride - This is a culture that Jerry has created and I don't know if any coach can fix it.
Toilet Paper - I did not think it would be possible to play worse than the historically bad defense from last year, but they pulled it off.
Buzzsaws - This is the NFL, good teams overcome all the hype.

I really liked reading your perspective. You are a voice of reason amidst all the chaos I was reading last night after the game. I couldn’t even comment then because I didn’t feel anyone wanted to talk “reasonably”much like you did here. Well done! It is way too early to draw conclusions etched in stone after this one game. I’m pretty sure your coaches and players will regroup, look at the tape, and learn from the mistakes made.

By the way, I think your OL did a great job giving Dak protection pretty much the whole game. Sure, there were a few plays he got flushed out on Giant blitzes, but honesrly, I expected my boys to have better results….ie, more sacks, more turnovers.

Lastly, I do hope you are wrong on one point you made…”I think it will be a different result the next time we meet.” I hope your words and thoughts don’t materialize. What would you expect me to say, right?

I think as Cowboys fans we are blown away by the defensive ineptitude. They looked as bad as they did last year, and they had made some positive additions, so that was beyond disappointing.

We knew the makeover would take some time, but it’s like Parker hasn’t even made a dent in terms of fixing the problem— so Overreaction Monday has turned into “Super-Meltdown-Overreaction Monday” lol

Understandable. Things will equalize when the product (hopefully) improves on the field.

Harbaugh’s effect looks real and legit. You and your fellow fans should feel good about the future— though I will hope you get brought back down to earth soon enough lol

We are at home, motivated, pissed, and the Washington front 7 is not as good as the Giants front 7. Neither is their OL.

I am looking fwd to hearing from Parker this week — and even moreso— how he and the D respond on Sunday.

Every coach and team fails at one point or another. Hopefully CP grabs the opportunity and maximizes the learning from this failure.

Would be a shame to waste an epic failure and not learn anything lol

It's not an anomaly, it's a continuation of the last 30 years. Nothing has changed, and it won't until the JonesBoys no longer have anything to do with the football side of things.

The time is now window is ticking pretty fast on this QB. So this team needs lots of early developmental productive flashes from its rookies and even more from the 2nd year guys to support him.

There's not a lot of time to waste on waiting for the defense to gel, come together or whatever other descriptive cliches you want to apply.

All those who keep supporting this developmental patience really do need to change course and apply a strong sense of urgency to your fanhood on this team's current approach to playing ball.

Because there ain't a bunch of layups in the next 5 or 6 games.
They could look up and be out of the playoff hunt pretty quickly if they don't change.
Like NOW.
