Marcus Spears-DL- Cowboys Sep. 6 - 6:48 pm et

Cowboys DE Marcus Spears has won back his starting job and will play with Dallas' first-team defense in Week 1.

As usual, Spears will be replaced by Jason Hatcher on all third downs, and Stephen Bowen will play plenty. Dallas' defensive line is the deepest in the league. Don't expect much from Clinton Portis on Monday Night Football.

Spears never lost his starting job he was injured.

Hatcher didn't do anything to threaten

He provides a rush but hasn't shown he's an affective run stopper.

We're gonna need him to stop the run. We were getting run up on while he was out!

so you are saying he isn't emotional enough?

Kinda reminds me of that song, "Don't know what you got.. till it's gone..";)

Spears is much more valuable to our D-Line than most fans, and seemingly even our organization gives him credit for. It doesn't seem likely at this point, but I really hope Dallas recognizes his true worth and offers him an extension that will keep him here for years to come.

I'm saying he isn't as affective against the run as Spears that's why Spears has been starting ever since his rookie year. Hatcher provides more of a pass rush that's why he's on the field on 3rd down passing situations but he won't start until he shows he can be more affective against the run. You have to stop the run first or your D will be on the field all day.

I saw the Vikings last game against the Broncos. There is no way we have the best d-line in the league.

Spears isn't replaced on third downs, he's replaced when we use a nickel or dime defense. If we're in our base defense on third down, Spears will be on the field. If we're in a sub package on first down, Hatcher will be on the field.

If I have to choose two of the three to keep I'm keeping Spears and Bowen.

And I don't think he'd try to break the bank like Canty did.
