RW: Cowboys DE Marcus Spears has won back his starting job

I hope Jerry finally shows Spears some love so he will stick around after this year. But, it will probably take a Canty-like contract to keep him around. Since he has been out, our run defense has looked more like there is someone missing rather than someone merely replaced by a backup.

Spears is good against the run, and his QB pressures have improved under Phillips. I don't think Spears will get that ridiculous contract the Giants gave Canty. Canty played inside on the four man line, and that helped him get the money. Although, I'm not sure why, imo. Spears is at a disadvantage there, because he doesn't play inside on the four man line.

If you look at the low tender that Dallas gave Spears, I think the writing is on the wall. If Dallas low-balled Spears one year tender, then it's a good bet that Dallas will not pay Spears what another 3-4 team will.

I predict that Spears and Hatcher will walk, and Bowen will stay.

Look for DE to be addressed multiple times in the draft and probably pretty high.

Offensive line and DE will be the major big item needs, imso.

Dallas has three nice developmental prospects on the o-line, but they would be foolish to not keep adding to the pipeline and increasing the odds of success. Barron and Holland are gone next year for sure, imo.

I think it's more than Jason Hatcher lost it or Spears' job wasn't in jeopardy to begin with. Should've been Bowen out there starting. It's as clear as day that he's a better player than Hatcher.

I don't know. I can see ESPN holding a roundtable on whether the one game benching of Romo affects team morale, or how Ware is now disgruntled, and wants a contract extension to unruffle his feathers.

There's at least a week's worth of dead air time that could be filled.

Do you recall your VERY old signature block of 'old': 'Now, isn't reality strange?' It seems that TSN is making an attempt to come back into fan view again.

Wade says Bowen is not strong enough against the run. That's why he's on the weak side. Hatcher is stronger against the run and plays the strong side like Spears does. They are not interchangeable.

Marcus Spears-DL- Cowboys Sep. 6 - 6:48 pm et

Cowboys DE Marcus Spears has won back his starting job and will play with Dallas' first-team defense in Week 1.

As usual, Spears will be replaced by Jason Hatcher on all third downs, and Stephen Bowen will play plenty. Dallas' defensive line is the deepest in the league. Don't expect much from Clinton Portis on Monday Night Football.

News to me. Best NT in the NFL, but then it's just good starters and solid & (some) unproven backups.

I don't see it. But, maybe that's why I don't work for an NFL team.
