Green Bay is a lot like Dallas, both teams pass in the first half to set up the run for later in the game.

It would be out of character for either team to try and establish the running game early, but with the priority of keeping the opposing offense off the field, might we see it from one or the other or both?

Establishing tempo is likely more important, and both teams use the passing game with great effect to do that.

Both squads like getting the tight end involved and both have a fearsome set of pass rushers, if the tight end has to stay in and help pass block for either side it might disrupt that offense.

Something to look for, IMO.

Don't be so sure about that. Many of us thought the same thing about Julius Jones.

This doesn't really prove anyone's point, but when I watched their Thanksgiving day game, he reminded me alot of Julius during his rookie year.

good stuff, Green Bay may be one of the few teams who won't max-protect against us, I know Wade has mentioned that teams were doing that a couple of times, but when you spread teams out w/ 5 WRs and throw short passes, you don't really have to do that

we have a good line, and Romo gets the ball out quickly, so we probably won't have Witten stay in to pass-block much either

If Green Bay goes with an empty backfield look, I wonder if we've worked on a four corner package?

Brett Favre is fifth in the NFL in yards per attempt, so he likes getting the ball down the field, but he has been abnormally good at protecting the football this season.

Interceptions have always been Favre's great weakness and all but completely ignored by the media that adores him.

If Green Bay uses four or five wides, the rush has to get there and rattle Favre enough so that he reverts to Bad Brett and rushes too many throws.

I don't expect Jason Witten to be kept in at first, we don't mind blocking four with five, just have to hope Flozell Adams and Marc Colombo are ready for war.

I do hope we try to establish the run a little bit more in the first half than we have been, but I have confidence in Jason Garrett's gameplan and the Redrum offense no matter what.

Theres only 11 people on the field at once. Against 5 WRs you would have the 5 recievers, 5 oline members, and 1 QB. On the defense there 3 Dlineman, 4 LBs, 2 Safeties, 2 corners. If you blitz from this theres going to be at least 2 mismatches against LBs and Safties. Then if youp lay with more corners, Favre will have all day to pass just like Romo.

This is the same guy Julius beat out as starter at ND. So, OGT, you want us to be AFRAID of him? That is funny.

I wonder why it took the Cowboys so long to let Romo play. If he was so good in 2007, where was he 2004-2005?

Grant has been lightning in a bottle, IMO. Teams have been focused on Favre because of no apparent running threat and he's taken advantage of his situation. I want to see how he plays when someone actually GAMEPLANS to stop him (I expect he'll get a l'il more attention this week). I'll venture to say he won't sniff the century mark Thursday night!

Big difference in RBs vs QBs. Grant just did not have much of anything. I just do not believe that SUDDENLY he is faster and shiftier. He did not show anything with the giants or anywhere else and he was given oppurtunities. Its MUCH more likely that he has had big holes and easy runs.

So basically you have no idea whether he's good or not now, but you're arguing anyway. Gotcha.

Hey, Packer Fan, are you going to be around after we beat you on Thursday nite?, or are you like the other Trolls who only come back when they win?.:starspin

In football, there are defensive formations known as nickel and dime packages specifically designed to contend with multiple receiver sets.

Five receiver sets can be effective, but they have drawbacks as well:

1) They negate the threat of a run, thereby allowing defensive linemen to concentrate solely on pass rushing.

2) Offensive tackles receive no help when blocking edge rushers. This latter point is key for Thursday's game because the Cowboys can boast two of the league's best pass rushing outside linebackers--Demarcus Ware and Greg Ellis.

Here is what Grant did at ND
G-GS TC Yds. Avg. TD LG Rec. Yds. Avg. TD LG
2001 5-0 29 110 3.8 1 16 0 0 0.0 0 0
2002 13-13 261 1085 4.2 9 38 9 22 2.4 0 14
2003 12-5 143 567 3.6 3 46 9 64 7.1 0 16
TOTAL 30-18 433 1762 3.9 13 46 18 86 4.8 0 16

This is against college competition. My guess is that he is a average back (or else why wouldn't the Giants keep him?). I would be surprised if he gets 5 yards a carry on us.

Gale Sayers, Tony D, Barry Sanders, Marshall Faulk-any of those names ring a bell to you?! He's not on that level yet, is he? Let the kid earn those type of compliments before you thrust them upon him...

Here's a stat for you:

Green Bay's YPG:
Grant Starting: 100.2
Grant not Starting: 71.2

I refuse to explain how Im a Packer fan but I like the cowboys again.

BTW Grant ran 120 or close to it and a TD against the vikings, the number one rush defense at the time.
