Just a guy that hasn't been talked about much around here, but he really should be.

The team recently said they're looking for speed and quick twitch first and foremost in potential draftees.

That, along with a need at OLB should put Shazier squarely on their radar. If he is there at Dallas' second round pick, he very well could be the best player available because he is a terrific football player that is a little too light for most teams. If he were 20 pounds heavier he would be a lock as a first round pick... and he still might be even at his size. He has athleticism like a DB and he plays all over the field.

Shazier has terrific instincts and is a natural LB, much like Lavonte David was a couple of years ago. He is a baller, flys around and hits anything that moves. Very smart and very aggressive. He has been starting at Ohio State since his true freshman season, always clearly being one of the best athletes on the field.

Another thing that will put him high up on Dallas' board is that he always goes 100MPH never taking plays off and loves to play the game. He is a natural leader on the field and in the locker room and is a high character person on and off the field.

So he fits physically what they're looking for as far as extreme speed for the position... he fits mentally what they're looking for (smart, leader, hard worker)... and he fits our scheme and not a whole lot of others because of his size, making him likely to be the highest rated player available if he is there at our second pick.

If Dallas did draft him, he would probably be a walk-in starter at WOLB and then Carter would fight it out with Holloman and Wilber for the SOLB position. Whoever won that spot would team with Shazier and Lee to form what would be a much, much better unit than Dallas had last season.

Here is what CBS has to say about him.

My favorite part:

Shazier has instant acceleration and explosive closing burst, using outstanding edge speed and timing to disrupt the pocket. Rangy athlete with terrific closing acceleration and burst. Explosive first step as a blitzer to force the QB from his spot. Very good bend off the edge with momentum to fight through blocks and disrupt the pocket. Flexible ankles and flattens easily.

Smart and puts himself in correct position to make plays. Sniffs out the ball and almost always finishes when he's in the area. Never quits working to the ball and relentless in pursuit.

Team leader and uplifting teammate with strong personal and football character. Versatile skill-set to drop in coverage, blitz and cover both sidelines. Very productive career with back-to-back seasons with 115-plus tackles, including a conference-best 143 stops in 2013.

Mainly his negatives are that he's overagressive and his size. Overagressive, I can deal with and his size won't really be a factor in Dallas' defense.

He's so good that he probably is gone by the time we pick in the second... but if he is there, he would very likely be the pick. Also, he fits what we want so much both mentally and physically that we could possibly move up a few spots to insure we get him... so I went ahead and posted about him here.

Yeah any guy who can amass 100 solo tackles in a 13 game season is no joke. He flies around the field and is a very sure tackler

If we can get a decent trade for late first or early second with additional picks. He is a dominant player, I think we can get solid d-line selections in second/third/fourth rounds.

I'm sorry but I do not see the love for this guy. He relies only on athleticism. He has a long way to go before he would be considered a polish product. He's basically a small run and hit guy or a smaller version of Bruce Carter. It looks like he has no idea what he is doing out there, terrible tackling technique, very inconstant getting off blocks. Lavonte David was 10 x the player coming out of college. No thank you...not in the 2nd.

If I am not mistaken there have actually already been a couple threads dedicated to this guy. He has been talked up quite a bit.

He is going to cash in big time on what Sean Lee and Kuechly have done as somewhat undersized linebackers. All three lack the explosive athleticism and speed that seems to be paramount nowadays, but they're all highly instinctual, gifted players.

I've mentioned it in the other threads, but I would be on board with him in the second as long as he is bookended by linemen.

Lee lacks the high end athleticism those other two have and relies mostly on instincts, but Kuechly and Shazier are elite athletes at the position.

Getting improved output from the starting weakside linebacker in this scheme is something that is not getting nearly enough attention.

Carter was a problem last season whether people want to admit it or not.

But it would shock me if there is any thought from Jones and Co. to give up on him and draft a replacement. From what I see, a player like Shazier or even Telvin Smith would be a huge upgrade and give a massive facelift to this defense that really needs it. I just do not see that happening.

We would rather just excuse his struggles last season as some anomaly and "hope" he comes around.

It is just what we do.

I thought Shazier was a projected 1st rounder?

There are so many good LB in this draft in the first, I think I am really leaning towards one at 16. And S. I think that's where our pick and the talent line up.

I am not enthralled with the DTs and DEs that will likely be there when we pick

Although I would love to get Telvin Smith in 2
