I appreciate getting a player everyone agrees is a generational player. But unless he's Ed Reed....do we want the highest paid Safety in NFL history? I know that is not what he makes now...but if he turns out to be the best Safety in the NFL...that's where this is headed.

If he turns out to be the best safety in football what’s the issue with paying him? Safeties typically won’t break the bank, even top guys are only taking up 8-9% of the cap by the AAV figure.

I really don’t see it as an issue.

I agree with you. We need all the good players we can get, especially on D. Especially in the secondary. He must have forgotten all those receivers running free in our secondary last year.
Besides, by the time he gets to be paid as the top Safety in the league it will be years from now. The roster and payroll won't be the same as it is now. Many of these contracts will be off the books by then, so I don't see an issue either.
If he does in fact become the best Safety in football, then pay him.
