and the damn things still take more than half a day to watch!
definately agree with you about the book being better than the film 99% of the time, i can't think of any book thats been made a film where i've preferred the movie.

I think the only movie I think I enjoyed as much as the book was The Green Mile.

What words would you use to describe Heath Ledgers joker?

Yea, Im not paying $10 for that

Your glass is definitely half empty here. Your post was spoken like a person who has never actual read a book.

That's why they make movies, something for everyone. :)

I used to read science fiction and fantasy books non-stop. They would have anywhere from 600-1000 pages. Lately though I've preferred graphic novels. Same story, but you can read them faster because the pictures cut a lot of the boring words out.

Sorry. I'm a little drunk. It's not the same story, but if it were it would be faster.

I briefly did some Internet infrastructure work for the American Booksellers Association. I cannot tell you how hard it is for small booksellers to compete with the large brick and mortar stores, but their biggest threat is the Amazon.com. Even Barnes and Noble's online site usually doesn't match Amazon.com or Amazon's reseller prices.
No doubt.
On top of that, and as much as like the real copies, I find myself using my Kindle often these days. It's just so easy.

Books make you think at the same time. VERY FEW visual things make you THINK while you are watching them. Surprising since books are technically visual as well but the difference is marked.

Truly sad. But they still have Nueva Laredo, just across the border, in Mexico...in Neueva Laredo is Boy's Town, aka "La Zona De Tolerencia"...awesome place...:D

To need a book store, you must first know how to read. I would wager the majority of the population are functionally illiterate.

Is language a factor?

Mexicans aren't going to buy a book in English. And Americans aren't going to buy a book in Spanish.

So, what do you stock as an owner of a bookstore?

And, everyone knows that it is MUCH cheaper to buy a book on the internet than a bookstore. Even 70% off books in a store can't compete with the internet prices.

I hadn't compared, but is that true? I haven't really thought of it, I just buy what I want, on line or at the store. It seems I'm paying more than ever for books, especially with shipping tacked on.

Anyone seen the movie Idiocracy?

it's all happening as predicted :laugh2:

That movies was hilarious.
And true. :)

I love bookstores, but I have to admit they don't get a lot of business from me. My 9-year-old son and I go to the library once a week and leave with something new. I'm a library freak.

If I want to buy a book, I usually order it from Amazon.

I like the idea earlier about having an ongoing book thread (like our movie review thread). Maybe both should be stickied.

Many things in live are sad -- Haiti, starving children, cancer.

This is not sad.
