definately agree with you about the book being better than the film 99% of the time, i can't think of any book thats been made a film where i've preferred the movie.

I think the only movie I think I enjoyed as much as the book was The Green Mile.

I used to read science fiction and fantasy books non-stop. They would have anywhere from 600-1000 pages. Lately though I've preferred graphic novels. Same story, but you can read them faster because the pictures cut a lot of the boring words out.

Sorry. I'm a little drunk. It's not the same story, but if it were it would be faster.

I briefly did some Internet infrastructure work for the American Booksellers Association. I cannot tell you how hard it is for small booksellers to compete with the large brick and mortar stores, but their biggest threat is the Amazon.com. Even Barnes and Noble's online site usually doesn't match Amazon.com or Amazon's reseller prices.

On top of that, and as much as like the real copies, I find myself using my Kindle often these days. It's just so easy.

Books make you think at the same time. VERY FEW visual things make you THINK while you are watching them. Surprising since books are technically visual as well but the difference is marked.

I hadn't compared, but is that true? I haven't really thought of it, I just buy what I want, on line or at the store. It seems I'm paying more than ever for books, especially with shipping tacked on.

I love bookstores, but I have to admit they don't get a lot of business from me. My 9-year-old son and I go to the library once a week and leave with something new. I'm a library freak.

If I want to buy a book, I usually order it from Amazon.

I like the idea earlier about having an ongoing book thread (like our movie review thread). Maybe both should be stickied.
